At 3:36 in the video you can see that the through-axle has a long splined section, which looks like it might engage with splines in the dropout

So you also need a proprietary frame 🙂

Yeah, I couldn't work that out. I know nothing about through-axle frames, but that one appears to have an insert on the NDS that forms the dropout. Is that not normal?

I think it's common but not universal, a bit like bolt-on dérailleur hangers. It's a serious impediment to the marketability if the product only works with selected frames and needs different inserts for each one.
