Which Groupset?

  • Bang on. SRAM red 22 won't fit unless it's the power meter version, SRAM force works, Quarq works, I think Rival too. Pretty sure all new AXS will also work, but it's worth checking.

  • I went through a phase of killing Rotor BSA30 bearings on the Kensisisisisisses. Fitted the relatively expensive alternatives from Enduro or one of those brands and still killed them and then fitted a whole new BB from Wheels Manufacturing and it was fine. But it's hard to say which got the most abuse during that time, since my training ride durations have tapered off and last year was almost all turbo save for Badlands.

As of Jan it has Shimano BB with 24mm axle so I don't need the expensive bearings any more - the missus does :D Actually you reminded me that her P2M is dead and needs attention.

  • Anyone know if the grx di2 front derailleur will work with a standard ultegra crank? Or does the +2.5 chain line scupper things?

  • I have AliExpress ZTTO BSA30. It uses an odd tool but the BB itself was like £8. And you can knock the bearings out and press fresh ones, they're standard BB30 size.

  • I just put a c-bear in mine after having used standard Shimano ones for years. Can feel it's smoother but not sure it's noticeably faster. Usually do 2 BBs a year so see how long this one lasts.

  • The grrl's bike needed different BB again because she's using my old cranks but with an internal BB. So the bearings are probably the size of a flea's balls and will need replacing after every ride.

  • But not your massive weight/watts ratio so she should be fine

  • If I killed 2 Shimano BBs a year I would look to change cranks. The only time I got through them that rapidly was when the axle had worn on the crank and seemed to prematurely kill the bearings. I do spread my miles out across like 8 bikes though so it's hard to tell what's normal and when something is going bad more frequently. I also went through a period of changing cranks a lot so bearings would normally get swapped maybe earlier too so I have a lot of sets that could be reused laying around. I should get rid.

  • Interested on this, I have the dreaded PF86 in one of my bikes and I'm kinda locked in with 24mm axles. Want a quarq or a Rotor Inpower but afraid I'll be knocking out bearings too often.

  • You can get get a Rotor Inspider in 24mm which would fit your current bearings?
Also you can find Quarq in gxp flavour.

  • Well yeah, bigger axle generally means smaller bearings, especially if they're contained inboard of the BB shell in some internal BB. I ran mine in BSA30 external bearing BB which wasn't too bad but I would assume the same usage in the grrl's setup would wear out somewhat quicker.
I need to get her a gravel bike or hardtail though so she can do some of the off-road stuff and that also takes some wear off the road bike.

  • Yeah but none of these come as standard and that would mean buying all parts individually at very inflated prices.

  • Where have all the flipping groupsets gone?! Just casually browsing so I can go ahead with a frame purchase and a new build, but can I find an acceptable groupset?!

  • That's not going to be helping, however, Brexit/Covid/Increased demand has left the bike industry with supply chain issues previous to austinpowerscartintunnel.gif

  • Covid - less making, more buying.

I had to buy all the parts for my Stanton build individually from a couple of stores.

  • That's probably full of 'Keep Calm and Carry On' or 'Live Life Love' wall hangings.

  • Does anyone know if the R8000 hoods are compatible with GRX levers?
The little ribs are great in winter, but not kind to my hands when riding without gloves..

  • Engineer hands. Get some builders hands.

  • I'd assume not. The shape is very different.

There are manufacturers of aftermarket hoods though.

  • Do you know where they sell them?

  • There are manufacturers of aftermarket hoods though.

    Can you name any?

  • ODI make their Hudz range, but don't do GRX.

  • Always suspected GRX is literally Shimano R8000/7000 with some cosmetic changes.

  • After doing some research, I can conclude they are not the same. They look similar from outside, but the little knobs on the inside are different
