    Combining a dérailleur with an internally geared hub isn't new.

    Combining a single chain ring with a 2-speed epicyclic isn't new, and one might argue that putting it at the front (Truvativ Hammerschmidt) might be preferable to putting it in the wheel.

    The new product seems to rely only on axle clamping friction to react the reverse torque of the stator gear, which is a technique known in engineering as "winging it"

    How much are you prepared to gamble that they will still be in business when you've worn out the proprietary cassette and need a replacement?

    At 3:36 in the video you can see that the through-axle has a long splined section, which looks like it might engage with splines in the dropout and the planetary gear system (visible at 4:06 and 8:15), locking them together.
