I spent 7 years commuting to Cowes on the high speed ferry. The only time that ferry was obstructed was during Cowes Week - and it would happen a lot. Either a sudden deceleration or change of course to avoid a yacht whose skipper wasn’t paying attention or would get all crossed up trying to get out of the way of us. From the front of the ferry it was reminiscent of riding a bike through a flock of feeding pigeons.

That is exactly the kind of misunderstanding I make. The other day I was shown a photo which had the caption underneath “this needs no further explanation” except I had completely misunderstood the image and I was in trouble for being either obtuse or stupid.

that reminds me of what was possibly an early meme I saw back in the 80's which provided an interpretation into banker's comments on a customer's balance sheet e.g. 'these figures need no explanation' translates to 'I don't understand them'
