  • Still no gravel in the Netherlands.

    Which tyres actually work in mud? I've ridden 2.4 MTB tyres through some stuff that's fine and other patches that are like an ice rink. What would gio do?

  • My road tyres are wider. 2.6 front and back for the hardtail (when it arrives) will officially be the fattest rubber I've ever owned. I can't wait (I can wait and have to because shipping these days...)

    Don't half hear some moaning on type one gravel though.

  • I just ride whatever I've got on. It's not like I'm going to fuck around with tubeless tyres based on terrain (another disadvantage of tubeless? or an advantage, in that, it's such a PITA to swap tyres you don't bother?)

  • Oh absolutely! I'm not guna ride CX tyres for anyone. I just occasionally go out for rides with a bunch of CX lads and they drop me immediately in the mud they purposely look for. Sadists.

    Run what ya brung. For me its going to be something that goes well enough on road that I can chalk up 50 mile or so on road to get to some awesome gravel roads/single track further afield and get home again without massive drag.

    I know now that's what I want, personally. Also, I see little to no disadvantage to tubeless over tubes, a great advancement in bicycle tyre tech

  • My latest build based on @Ifonlyiwerebelgian 's ex-frame.
    Forgot to took pics during the first proper ride (tho it was not muddy and basically did not cover any elevation, so would not count anyway) - so only have this one in the park of the local stadium. Rocking the 27.5 x 2.1 bandwagon, but sadly no handcrafted part or accessories - I substitute these with gold and rainbow bling from Aliexpress.

    33mm CX tyres still roll better than 45mm tyres because 33<45. Unless you stop and pump up/deflate tyres when you transition from road to mud.

    Now, the wellbeing of your hands and back on 100k+ rides is a whole different matter.
