  • Anyone had window shutters fitted recently/any recommendations for companies to use or avoid (east London)?

Looking at tier on tier hardwood shutters and curtains for a large bay window and have Hillary’s coming in next week to quote. Not quite sure what to expect having only used independent carpenters for bits of woodwork before - I imagine very Avon salesy but reviews are hit and miss.

  • I used Gethin Lloyd from Knights for a sale, a remortgage as well as a purchase and couldn't fault them. They used to call to give me updates which was a surprise

They're Chester based but two of the properties were in London.

PM me if you are still looking and I can send you his email address

  • Serif Owners, any reason why I should not take the plunge ?

On the Samsung website the 55" is £899 with another £200 cash back. Seems a bit silly to me...Was thinking I could get JL to price match and then get the 5 year warranty?

Must admit the range has always interested me but I did not consider it, as a serious alternative to the Sony AG9 etc....but at that price I am wondering if I should stop being such a techno snob.

  • only downside I've come across is it's a pain in the arse (aesthetically) if you want to run a console/soundbar/separate speakers with it

  • Not quite sure what to expect

    Hardwood shutters are serious money.

  • As Cozey says only issue is around getting a soundbar to play nice. I’m going to install a small shelf behind the tv to house the sound bar which with a 55 is fairly comfortably disguised.

Other than that I love it - catches a little more dust than a normal TV on the front edge and top but whatevs

  • Is a sound bar needed ?

It’s the one thing I have read as being disappointing (sound quality)

  • Can it Bluetooth in to a Hifi?

  • Behold the carpets.

I've asked to go and see it, observations welcomed.

  • It’s a great size. Leasehold though?

  • is that a pentium in 8 of 19

    might be AMD athlon

  • Leasehold though?

    Ah. Bugger, hadn't seen that.

  • Sony TV's literally have the worst software imaginable. Nobody has 30 seconds for the TV to do it's thing every time you change channel.

  • Yeah the sound is ok but not amazing

  • Absolutely love modernist houses like that. Will be so nice with a bit of modernisation.

  • Bought it, brother in law works for Coutts so bought on his staff discount for £719, also eligible for the £200 cash back and used £65 of Amex points. So £450 all in...

  • Not necessarily an issue. Might be a 999 year lease at a peppercorn rent with limited lessee's covenants.

  • Did raised beds. Need a bit more filling, and with better stuff than the claggy rubbish in there so far. Glad I'm just going to be sitting at a desk tomorrow.

  • It's not ideal really. Who would the freeholder be and why would they exist? Probably wrong but immediate assumption is that it's ex local authority. Maybe it's just a private estate.

Would also want to know if those hedges are within the property or without.

Once you are done modernising it, you are probably looking at a £1m house which seems a bit wild given its location. Maybe?

(that video tour is fucking useless isn't it?!)

  • The cork floor tiles are very ON HERE

  • (that video tour is fucking useless isn't it?!)

It pretty much sums up estate agents - they add a thin sticky veneer to everything, with no real value.

100 - 150k to do up makes it feel like it's too expensive, even if it's a really good size.

Where's the roof access - Is it through the centre bathroom? There's some weird things going on in the middle.

  • There's some weird things going on

I like the way the boiler flu meets you at the porch. Nice.

The garden could be an absolute banger if the neighbours hedges aren't fucking it. Your own pump track could be a thing.

  • We put our microwave in a cupboard, regular one nothing fancy, as it used to be in the hallway in old kitchen (tiny kitchen is tiny), apart from the very odd time when forget to leave the cupboard door open to vent it, zero issues, love that you don't have it hogging up a huge chunk of worktop (attracts filth and clutter, ever seen a kitchen without something sat on top of microwave?).

Only have a single oven, and a bit of a pan drawer underneath it. At time we wanted maximum storage so opted out of a double split oven job in favour of a pan drawer. Turned out we went overboard on storage, now have THREE places to store pans and trays, under and above a full height built in fridge (under is big, above it is fecking massive, 600x600x 400 high) so COULD have gone for a double oven.

For me, 2/3 main oven + 1/3 smaller oven + small microwave in a cupboard is the ideal (which wish had done). You don't often need that second oven, maybe a few times a month, but you do miss not having it. If for nothing more than heating plates

  • I just showed the other half, and we realised that we could actually smell the place too.

  • i like the WFH setup
