  • Anyone know of a reliable Triumph specialist in London?

Tiger's taken a beating all winter and I've maintained it well but It's due a Valve check and whilst I can do it myself, I honestly can't be arsed and it could do with a map check as it's guzzling fuel.

  • @Chak I was recommended Trimoto in Greenwich when I had hot start issues with the Street Triple. Sold it before I went to them so don’t have any personal experience.

  • Maybe the case. I would be interested in a similar experiment in London where the buildings are closer together and the sound reflects more. At the moment my own experience dictates that pedestrians are a bigger risk to my life than cars but it would be interesting to gather more evidence from a wider set of circumstances.

  • Wholeheartedly agree. Be it London or parochial Swindon, when cycling or motorcycling, pedestrians account for more than half the grief I’ve experienced.

In more exciting news, I’ll view the XJ600 later if all goes to plan. View today, then if any good pick up by the weekend.

In the mean time I also had a line on a Bandit 600 mk1, but I’m afraid that it has an equal risk of endorsements as faults to rectify.

  • Appreciate it.
I sorted out the hot start issue myself but I really can’t be arsed with major work on this.

  • Totally with you. Doing valves on modern, multi cylinder bikes is a massive chore. Last time I did the GSXR it took me an hour of swearing just to get the valve cover back on.

  • Paying and picking up tomorrow I think. Feels fine.

  • Wahoo! Any more pics?

  • Watched a video of the process and the ladder plate has 16 bolts. SIXTEEN. The guy was calm till he had to slide that out of the frame.

    @pdlouche noiiiice. More pics please.

  • Looks very tidy. I sure you will wring every last ounce from the engine too which is half the fun.

First thing I'd consider is an s fairing or some kind of screen. Naked bikes above 80 mph for a few hours are very tiring.

  • More pics when it’s in my hands and out the garage.

Felt fine around the block. There’s a tapping sound that is one or more exhaust gaskets. I’ll be wrapping the joins with para-aramid and Holts bandages to be sure it’s nothing engine-related. A previous prospective buyer apparently wrapped a rag around the gaskets and the noise stopped, so the friend told me he’s prefer I tried it myself to be sure it’s not engine related.

Yes I am definitely going to be pushing what it’s capable of, and a fairing is on the cards.

We left the same time and I was on the DR with dirt wheels, friend on the KTM supermoto with 3x the bhp. Didn’t realise how hard I was riding the DR until I found myself laughing in my helmet.

  • All paid and insured, will tax it with the V5 slip this evening and ride it home 👌🏻

  • Nice! This is definitely my budget level of biking. Looks like a solid thing, simple to fix etc. There's still a lot of them about too.

  • Was past 18:30 and getting dark, so only drove it home and locked it up. Feels so strange being on a low bike with oodles of power, even if it is relatively sedate in the delivery.

I was trying to ride it like a DR and found myself a little confused that it just kind of told me “no, we don’t do that”.

Will lube and adjust clutch and throttle tomorrow, and fuel up for a proper shake down.

  • Enjoy. Maybe if you're bored by summer you can have the Duke off me!

  • Exciting. Imagine it takes a while to get used to riding such a different machine. Sorry if I missed it but are you selling the DR?

  • Ybr or cdm version of?
Seized swing arm bolt dealt with on my old ybr, was a total bastard, seized into almost every part of it, had to drill it out with a modified pillar drill and about 6 long evenings.
Don't ignore getting it free, mine the swing arm Bush was starting to stick on one side, then the arm itself cracked in half at the weld, came the closest to life being ended as it threw me sideways on motorway slip road almost into a truck trailer.
Don't ignore them, get them free and check bearings are ok.

  • Nope. The DR is staying put. I sold the GN125, and wanted to get a road bike to be more comfortable and keep the mileage down on the DR.

Now I have a road bike for roads, and a dual sport for dirt. The DR would still be an ideal RTW platform, maybe with the 440 big bore.

  • then the arm itself cracked in half at the weld, came the closest to life being ended as it threw me sideways on motorway slip road almost into a truck trailer.

    Fook that !!!

  • I thought that was the case but just needed to check.

  • Looks so different to the version that was standard in London with the ratty top box, handle bar muffs and estate agents boards fairings.
