  • Think that was a ‘Darwin Award’ moment tbh ;-)

  • A ratchet strap is the ideal course

For very voluminous loads, yes. Otherwise innertubes are better as the rubber provides some friction as well as elasticity.

  • I mean I was trying to split a still circular inner tube so that I could use it to tie something on to my bag but didn't have a knife or scissors so I put it under my foot and pulled the other side upwards with my hand until it snapped.

    So yes, exactly :)

  • I remember!

  • The cargo bike is now baby compatible!

The Cybex car seat on its own offers a certain level of safety.

I have fitted a pram adaptor to hold the seat in place and it it was to break, the car seat wouldn't fall off the bike as it is in a box!

  • Sorry for the late reply, it’s half put together. Just had a baby and still winter here so motivation is low

  • Thanks. I've decided I need power and may just fork out for a purpose built one.

  • BABY IN A BOX! :) Looks like that will work a treat.

  • Yesterday morning around the Ealing area I've never seen so many cargo/kids carriers being ridden:

Bakfiets Long - All black with canopy
Bakfiets Long - old red classic
    x2 Babboe e-trikes
    Nihola e-trike
x2 bikes with proper large front racks (much bigger racks than the average hipster effort!)

There's also an all-black and very stealth looking e-Bullitt about too, but this wasn't spotted yesterday.

  • a new one will be added soon cc/ @Howard

  • shame about the MP though

  • Indeed! The LTN’s have caused a lot of anger, but it has been blown all out of proportion by tabloids, BBC and Councillors/MP’s adding fuel to idiots selfish and blinkered views...

  • Eagle-eyed spotters around the horsell area would have spotted a rad dad carving it up on an e bullitt. The really attuned would have seen lactate building as he tried to hold 17mph into a slight headwind to impress his daughter, who was shouting faster.

First nursery run went well. 17mins there, 9 back. Need to find a better route tho.

  • Yassss we are currently on a blue Bakfiets Shadow. There's also a South African (I think) family who have an urban arrow.

I think I was out with the e-bullet on Sunday - it belongs to a mate of mine in Perivale.

  • So my initial thougs are:

    1. I started wanting a rd as the offered greater range, are cheaper, robust and known to me. 5 miles on an e cargo with a 5 speed nexus has told me not to stress about the range and that being able to change gear stopped is more important. So I'll be looking for a hub gear.
    2. Bullitt is great but too small for 2 kids.
    3. I want front suspension as some of the cycle paths and roads are terrible.
    4. I love e assist. Won't consider a cargo without.
  • I'm sure this must have been covered but I've had a quick trawl through and can't find much.

What's the best way of attaching a dynamo front light to the front rack of a mini-max? I'm leaning towards this handlebar mount but it seems pricey for a bit of thermoplastic.

Has anyone got any smart alternatives? I've got a box full of crap but can't seem to piece bits together to make a suitable mount. I don't want to attach to the mudguard/disc brake mount as I think it might be too low.

  • I was ready to hate the nu-vinci thing but I'm in love with it now.

    Not sure about suspension...

  • Bullitt is great but too small for 2 kids.

If kid carrying is primary usage, avoid Bullitt IMO

I want front suspension as some of the cycle paths and roads are terrible.

Heavy and more service required .. yyy?!

  • Heavy-not too bothered. Servicing tho, didn't think of that. Never had a bike with sus.

  • they are devil's work when it comes to service, avoid IMO.

  • I've seen some people mount their dynamo lights to the fork on Omniums, partly because it means it won't interfere with your cargo but also I think it looks neater, not sure exactly how they mount them though as they seem to be held on part way down the fork blade. When I see an example I'll send it over

  • Drill underneath the extension bar?

  • Hmmmmm.

    Urban arrow
    Cube cargo
    Packster 70
    Babboe whateves

Anything else for family duty? 2 kids 3 years apart.

  • I would like the kids out front so the gsd is out.

  • Is this true for sprung forks too?
