  • I bought a house this way. It's worth a shot - if someone is just thinking about moving and you cut out the EA it makes sense all round. Have to be lucky though...

  • We went back to carpet in most of our bedrooms.
You want decent underlay and deep carpet. It feels really luxe. We've got 'oh-my-god-don't-you-dare-wear-shoes-or-even-slippers-in-here' cream in the main bed and more forgiving grey/blue in spare/kids room. All super plain.

  • I’m close to the posting letters of interest through people’s letter boxes stage

After a brief lull, I've started receiving lots of these again. Some are even hand-written.

  • Yeah think I'm struggling because when i mentally visualise 'nice rooms' in various styles, or look for inspiration on instagram/TMH etc - i see nothing with carpet that I like

  • @rogan - have you considered Sisal?

  • In a market where it's best and final offers on most properties don't bother with posting letters.

  • will take a look, ta!

  • You’d be surprised- 3 houses on our street sold that way recently

  • I guess it’s actually happening then.

  • More ivy clearance this time from the front path. Ivy came from my neighbours hedge. Which meant as soon as I cut it, his hedge fell over. Luckily he's a nice guy and it was easy enough to fire a few screws in his wall and tie it back up. May actually take out the laurel stumps as they were so stunted by the ivy.

  • I expect he's probably just grateful that the new neighbours and more inclined to care for their property than the previous ones. Makes his go up in value too...

  • I mean ultimately it was his hedge growing over into mine, but I still felt bad. He was fine about it.

  • What was in the middle of the path, some kind of ornamental fountain?!?

  • A coal chute I imagine.

  • A concrete circle with a relief of a squirrel. The previous owner found it and put it (badly) in the middle. We've asked the builder to quote for relaying the quarry tiles with that relief a bit better levelled.

  • Where I am is a best and final offers market. I have also thought about doing some letters to houses that look a bit run down to try and get something.

I have daily alerts on rightmove and by the time I have rung the agent to book a property (which fits the criteria I have given them and asked to be notified about if anything comes up), they are struggling to fit me in for a viewing. Madness.

  • That porch will scrub up lovely. Blimey this is making me want to move to a house with an overgrown garden and random squirrel paves.

  • Serious porch envy. Ours is so shit.

  • Door resto work is supposed to start in a couple of weeks. Builder is also quoting for the render/painting. I'm going to have a crack at the woodwork in the porch myself. Tiles were replaced when the roof was done.

Ms_com is in charge of the colours and has gone for a light-ish but not baby blue with brass furniture. I'm not convinced but she knows more about these things. Getting a new brass step nose too.

  • This bastard was hiding behind the old gate post. Thought it was going to take my loppers and shank me with them.

  • What's a brass step nose?

  • I know it’s just how things are, but ads like these on the rightmove app really feel like a kick in the teeth when as every day that passes you feel yourself getting priced further and further out of the areas you want to be in and then still looking at less and less space than you’d like...
