Seiko seem to get away with it. Tuna, Samurai, Sumo, etc.
But they're actually useful, unlike their alpha numeric names. Oh yeah, look at me flexing me SLA5643.
But they're all distinctly Japanese and that's why it works I think. They have one of the most renowned tuna markets in the world and samurai and sumo are directly related to their culture were as all the others are animated fictional characters.
