  • the serial number is very worn down on the [kryptonite] key

If they’re the same as Ford keys used to be the slant angles are the same as the numbers, a locksmith should be able to decode them with a bitting chart.

  • Look for Anker powercore, they come in smaller capacity
    (Might be an odd shape)

  • I need to order replacement keys for my Kryptonite lock but the
serial number is very worn down on the key.

Might not work now but a few years ago I sent kryptonite a message/email a explaining I’d lost the keys to an expensive lock of theirs I had at home (instead of locked in public to a bike). I sent my lock number and some pics, and they sent me a key, which I promptly registered with their keysafe programme.

  • The rubbery bit that sits at the bottom of the spacers before they meet the frame on my steerer tube is a little bit pushed out / loose - is this a major problem?

  • You mean the sealing ring on the bottom of the headset cover? If it's flapping around, it might bind up and cause a bit of drag, but probably not enough to notice. The loss of a good seal at the point seems to be a non-issue if you have cartridge bearings with their own seals, unless you spend a lot of time riding underwater.

  • I’m not sure if I’m paranoid but everything feels a little bit loose when I’m riding at speed. But stationary everything feels pretty tight.

  • are rear mech shimano b links generic? ie if I take an old acera mech off from the link rather than hanger, can I fix a direct mount XT 11sp to it essentially making it a traditional mount?

  • Okay, so what am I missing ... I have a Cannondale Synapse 105 (rim brake). When riding, the gear indexing is fine, nice and quiet and no rub. When attached to my Kickr Core, it is noisy as hell, the rear derailleur seems to be unindexed, and the chain line seems to be different as the chain rubs on the front derailleur.

    • Same cassette used on both the wheel and the trainer (11 speed Shimano 105 R8000 11-28)
    • Correct rear axle width set-up (130mm, using Adaptor A and B in the 130mm config as shown here)
    • No spacers (as instructed).

    What am I missing?

  • using Adaptor B

Should be Adaptor A and B.

  • Of course. I meant for the axle width.

  • What am I missing?

The distance from the cassette registration face (where the big sprocket pushes up against the hub) to the drive side hub axle lock nut face (where the axle pushes up against the dropout) is different between the two set ups. You're either going to have to shim one of them to match the other, or you're going to have to adjust your gears every time you swap.

  • Thanks.

Is that normal? Both the wheel (Shimano RS100 I think) and the Trainer are 11-speed apparently, so is it just a tolerance thing?

  • It's like having a different width hub, the cassette spacing may be the same but the placement of the cassette is different. I have the same with my Direto X but it only seems to affect the biggest sprocket.

  • Gotcha. I (stupidly?) assumed that an 11-speed freehub meant it was a defined width, and so it was the same between hubs.

  • is it just a tolerance thing?

Yes. It's common when switching between hub manufacturers, but just the tolerances on different instances of the same make and model can be enough at least to make your gears noisy even if they still index.

  • @ Will - thanks for the rec, it looks just the ticket but apart from Amazon, which I am trying to avoid, I cannot find it for sale in the UK only on USA sites. Rymans had a Hitachi-LG model which looks very similar but not in stock.

I'm now looking at an Asus one (£23) and HP (£31). There's a Dell one at £63 but seems similar. I'll probably get the HP.

  • Recently someone asked about shipping/transporting delicate equipment and there seemed to be some forum expertise. Was that on this thread?

  • What in particular are you looking to ship? I know a lot of people (inc myself) have had good experiences shipping bikes, delicate musical instruments and things like heavy alloy wheels using Paisley Freight.

  • Any reason I can't put my condenser dryer and small chest freezer in a Keter Max Arc box - happy to drill a few holes and add a vent although of course they're not air tight?

  • Now that Mavic wheels are defunct, what's the go-to cheap but decent touring rim brake wheelset? Something equivalent to Mavic A319.

  • Can anyone recommend a [takes deep breath] Japan-based clothing/tat emporium that ships out of .jp but that takes PayPal and has an English language option? Like Jump the Gun but not Jump the Gun (nothing against JtG but I think I've exhausted the Breton sweater as gift angle for a bit). Thanks!

  • Something from Spa cycles? Sputniks or Exal LX17 on deore for £200 or so

Freezers can stop working when their environment gets cold. Check yours is rated for outdoor use. Assuming the box is going outside?
