  • Thanks all.
Wife is Japanese so she likes that style of bath.
Our girls have baths every night so I have to clean it every time anyway...

Guess the waste is probably the main issue (and funds)

  • Aye, which would also cut into the bath space, you'd end up with a 110cm bath, if such a thing even exists.
I admire your wife's enthusiasm @nankatsu but that layout is a non starter. I like the idea of a free-standing bath but they only really make sense in a place where they can actually stand, free and proud, rather than cramped in by 3 walls.

Edit: MVP @Sheppz makes it look possible, but still think freestanding isn't the way to go...

  • Build in the bath. Raise it on a step plinth which includes the loo waste on one side. Just put the shower over the bath.

  • Very rough mock up of how I'd go about making more from that bathroom if a bath was a necessity
bath under window (personally I'd just do a shower over bath) but you could fit shower and bath with this layout probably and can run soil out this way too.

  • It's a bit tight i'd say and drainage / WC waste would be a challenge.
The loo position is prominent next to the glass screen and would somewhat spoil the effect maybe ? Waste would need to drop vertical and run between joists - or totally rebuild the wall between bedroom and bath allowing to conceal.
The basin position is in the door swing which isn't great.
Is it ground or first floor ? Looks like there is already plumbing in the bedroom wall for the taps. For the wet room thing you need to raise the floor to allow for drainage - never detailed one personally but used plenty of shit ones that don't work. Everything is doable but depends if the juice is worth the squeeze for ya.

  • Japanese you say? A Japanese style bath would work great and they tend to be deeper and more square which could work.

  • @nankatsu

Think I posted the same recently, but sister put this into her place and likes it.
    75x125cm

And from their site - probably a good way to stop kids splashing over the sides being a problem if that's right in the shower tray

  • I've been waiting for these to be brought up! Been wondering about one for my place.

    Plus Japanese toilet (seat)

  • Thanks - it's ground floor and there is a cellar which runs underneath the front bedroom and may go under the bathroom too.
    That would help I guess.
    Don't fancy rebuilding the wall.
Perhaps we can get something similar without going total wetroom.
I'm 6'2" but the Japanese style are fine for me.

  • That looks great!

  • Looks like a perfectly serviceable bathroom. I'd leave it well alone and spend the energy and money on something else.

  • Yeah I agree - but it would make my wife happy if we could change it.

  • really wish I didn't have a bath. we've installed two bathrooms in successive places, and each time mrs cozey has petitioned to keep the bath despite my protestations. and, lads, let me ask you, how many baths has she had in the past five years... ?

yes, that's right, you guessed it. zero, zilch, rien, nada

  • Baths are overrated, I think for the odd time when your sore they are great but I have one once in a blue moon.

Baths also take too much time and im late always.

  • What's the deal with London water and trendy black taps and shower heads etc? Does it look great for the first year and then deteriorates quite quickly and the black potentially wears off?

  • Baths are fantastic, especially after a cold swim. They aren't big enough though.

What I really want is a hot tub, sauna and plunge pool in the garden. Just need some way to screen it from the neighbours.

  • I think maybe it’s a hint that you should be running the baths for her?

  • It depends on the makeup of the item and how the finish has been applied. If plated, then it will fade regardless of lacquering treatment. If powder coated, then it should last better assuming they don't chip.

A water softener improves the longevity of the finish but can't be used for drinking water locations.

  • Double down, start having baths yourself. Include lots of bubbles. Have you thought about a bath bomb? Treat yourself

  • You need a bath. Pretty sure the two I have a year keep me sane.

  • Resin floor, worth it? Considering it as an option for our kitchen.

  • Tbf I have black taps downstairs and they are fine.

  • I bathe about 3 times a week, less in summer, couldn’t live without one, but still, nice hot bath, glass of fizzy and a face mask, living my best life.

  • Good tip, will make sure it's powder coated then. We were looking at the Lusso stuff and then not sure for the shower screen.
