  • I've been scooting around on Schwalbe Kojaks for a couple of years. I've yet to have a puncture. I check them for embedded sharps regularly - esp after riding in rain.
    Deflate-pinch-pick out pointy crud.

  • Too late. 🙃

  • This is a time for new beginnings.

  • Conti urban

  • Little too wide for my taste.

Anyways, Marathons are ordered. Thanks for the suggestions!

  • ha!

For future ref; Continental Contact Urban Tyre - 16 x 1.35 Inch 35-349

  • Is there a difference between the marathon and marathon racer?

  • Marathon is Wayne Rooney while Marathon Racer is Steven Gerrard.... ;)

  • The racer has much thinner sidewalls than the marathon

  • Racer slightly lighter, less puncture protection etc

  • Anybody got an idea how much the FREITAG × BROMPTON bags will be? The backpacks look to be about £280 before the Brompton tax.

  • I really like that!
    What size gear, looks massive?

  • Cheers mate..58/15 - 62”

  • Is it possible to swap the freehub on a 2 speed from cicrclip to lockring?

  • OK forget that.

I've basically got this kit, but with a 19t big cog: https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/sprockets/minimods-brompton-3-cog-upgrade-kit-12-14-17t/

But I can't get the circlip on. What's wrong?

I bought just a 19t and 12t (the same shimano 105 cog with the recess). Is the spacer or circlip different to stock Brompton 2 speed?

  • But I can't get the circlip on. What's wrong?

Perhaps you need to remove the plastic spoke guard to make room for the third sprocket?

  • Yes I've done that, it still won't quite fit. It's infuriatingly close to going on. I wonder if the circlip in the mini mod kit is thinner

  • The circlip in my kit (not minimod, and I've yet to fit it) is thinner that the standard one. Whichever way you do it, you've got to get properly medieval on the circlip's donkey with a large screwdriver for leverage. FYI in the interest of doing this job, I have acquired a large number of broad ranging types of circlip pliers. None of which are up to the job. BFO screwdriver is king.

  • It's not a case of it being difficult, it literally doesn't fit between the cog and the groove in the cassette hub. Either the circlip or the cogs and/or spacer are too thick.

I measured the spacer and it's 2mm just as the minimod is spec'd.

I guess it must be the circlip, but where do I get a thin one?

  • Using the trusty Mitutoyo callipers this is what I have...
17T averages out at 1.55mm thickness
14T averages out at 1.5mm thickness
12T averages out at 4.05mm thickness
    Black spacer is 2.51mm thickness
    Circlip is~34.0 Ø uncompressed, using 1.45 Ø material

I'm pretty sure I got my kit from Bike Gang.
They're generally pretty helpful, and Paul Chiu is a nice guy to deal with.

He's based in Newcastle - as opposed to taiwan

  • Cheers very helpful

I would have got the minimod, but I wanted a lower gear and I know that 19t just fits.

  • This may seem a daft question - but the sprockets you bought - they are for a 10 speed cassette, aren't they.

  • Well the 19t is ultegra 10 speed, and the 12t is 105 11 speed.

I got the 105 because it was the only 12t cog which had the recess I believed was necessary to fit the circlip. It also matches the appearance of the minimod 12t.
