  • My Seiko 5 has turned Arabic!
I used to have English week day names as default. Arabic week days would only appear briefly as the date changed around midnight. But after letting the charge run out and then re-winding I now have Arabic as a default and the English only appearing briefly.

  • They all have two languages on the day wheel. Manually set it back to the correct English day (make sure the hour hand is in the bottom half of the dial when you do) and it will stay on English.

Edit: if anyone doesn't know the recommended method for setting these:

    1. unscrew the crown (if it unscrews) and pull it all the way out (this may or may not stop the seconds hand depending on the movement)
    2. advance the hands so that they're both in the bottom half of the dial (this is so you don't damage the date change mechanism when you do the quick set in the next step)
    3. push the crown back in and pull it out again one stop to engage the date set.
    4. turn it one way to advance the day and the other way to advance the date. Set it to yesterday's date
    5. pull the crown all the way out (if the movement hacks, do it so the second hand is at 12) and turn it to advance the time so that it ticks over midnight and changes to today's date. This way you know that the time is set to AM/PM correctly and it won't tick over at midday
    6. push (or screw) that crown back in at the right moment and go about your day

  • I have my Lordmatic set to kanji days, because it looks cool.
Although to set it, I have to go through to Sunday (which is a different colour) and then set the day, because I cannot read Japanese

  • If you can't read it why bother setting it correctly?

  • Because @Regal would know.

  • I'm not sure if you are a madman or a genius.

  • It's a thin line.

  • For me I think the 39mm is great dimension wise, for my slim wrists anyway (tried the red grape as no black at the time), but I prefer the double baton hands and dial layout of the 36mm, so when I watched that video it gave me some hope about the 41mm as its very close to the old 39mm. Only tried vintage DJ 36mm wise, so my opinion could change if I tried a newer OP 36mm.

I still think it was a pointless move by Rolex though. Why create a 41mm OP when the dimension are so close to the 39mm you already had? I guess some would say that it then goes inline with the 41mm submariner update but then the OP is the perfect watch to dress up or down, were as the Sub is an all out sports / tool watch and I feel that the 39mm spec reflects that well and separates the collection well too.

Maybe its because they wanted to charge more for very little manufacturing cost difference, if any at all?

  • Hi all, long time lurker on this thread but very much a novice on all things watch.

I bought a Smiths Everest from the last drop and love it so have been wearing it as my daily since I got it. However, twice now the pins in the metal strap have come loose, once on the wrist and last night when I undid the clasp.

First time I suspected user error, I probably hadn't tightened the pins enough when I adjusted the bracelet. So I made sure that everything was properly tightened. Second time is a bit more worrying. Is this normal? I'd expect a bracelet to not disintegrate every month, surely?

  • My mate had that happen too, thankfully he was in the car and nothing really happened to the watch, it just dropped on the seat. Maybe use loctite thing to make sure it doesn’t come loose?

  • Threadlock would be my suggestion

  • I agree, 39mm is a great size. However, with a non-diver watch like my Railmaster, I kind of wish it was a little smaller. Feels quite large at times even on my 8in wrist.

  • If you think about it what does anything have to do with anything

  • Only two things in life are certain: death, and Rolex price rises.

They refresh all their core lines regularly, it's just what they do. The new movement and upgraded bracelet clasp are the biggest deal but why not throw some new colours etc. in while you do.

It might be that the 36 / 41 designation was partly intended to bring it in line with the Datejust and Day-Date ranges.

Welcome! Very much a novice myself, so welcome fellow novice.

  • If you think about it what does anything have to do with anything

Im sure there's some correlation between some things. But definintely something worth discussing over a beer or 10.

  • I like that idea.

  • Serious wrist you’ve got there. Definitely doesn’t look too big.

  • I like that idea.

    soon dude. soon

  • I just changed a strap on a watch with QR spring bars for the first time, it took seconds. Why doesn't every watch have these?

  • I just changed a strap on a watch with QR spring bars for the first time, it took seconds. Why doesn't every watch have these?

Something to do with strap changes as revenue earner for ADs / shops and lack of awareness of QR straps generally, probably.

  • And this is a 34mm Air King. Doesn’t look that small, does it?

  • Anyone have any idea why some of the older Tudor subs range in price so much? I can pick up this one for example for about 700 quid here in Japan but the same reference, 7016/0, go for much more on Chrono24 etc.

Seems to be legit, lots more pics of the movement and case back etc, just don't want to drop the money on something and get burned!
