  • It will need a couple of Van Der Poels, Pogacars or Alaphilippes to loose an important race due to a simple flat before pro teams will go back to rim brakes (and classic quick releases). Noticed that in last years TdF even Jumbo Visma used rim braked Bianchi's in important mountain stages?

  • Roglic is on disc this season, so let’s see.

  • Still far more rim and mechanical only framesets in existence than electronic/disc only.
Also the custom bike and collector frame market.

  • Cheers for the compliments on the Domo Farm Frites Merckx. @Sig_Arlecchino I've got an SLX Merckx too with a similar set up and definitely prefer the Max frame over the rough stuff, the SLX I find flexes a bit too much under my fat ass, so I should probably be on the salad rather than chips and mayo. Those 3t stems are sexy but flex a bit too which helps make it less jarring over cobbles.

@PhilPub keen eye sir, yes they are Harry Rowland built wheels, 28/32 Chorus hubs, Sapim spokes and Open Pro rims.

As we had a bit of sunshine this morning I went out for a quick spin on my Nikor, and as I'd not seen what the Max tubes looked like with some old deep shiny rims + some sunshine, I put some Shamal tubulars on for a bit of extra dazzle. The fat tubes and stem look good with deep rims I think, especially in the sun. The tyres may be Open Pave's but to avoid rattling my fillings loose I shall be avoiding the cobbles with this set up :)

  • I can look at that all day 💜
What bartape have you wrapped here?

  • Thanks mate, the frame looks ever more purple in real life than I've ever managed to capture in pics. It sounds more like something you'd put in a bong, but the tape is 'Fizik Tempo Microtex Bondcush Soft Bar Tape'.

  • Good god 😍

    That’s quite a stable you’ve got there.

  • Bit concerned about DA9100’s bashing recently. It’s an extremely refined groupset and likely the last cable-actuated rim-brake Dura Ace the world will see. It’s a bit of a moment

    Agree 100%

    +1 for this

  • Is the bartape a bit velvet-y? I’ve got the pleather style version and love it but not sure I’d want to have suede effect

  • Yes that's the stuff. I've got the leathery style Fizik on the Merckx on previous page, and also have it in white on a couple of bikes, and agree its great, it lasts for years and is easily kept clean with some soapy water.

I used to use the older Fizik Dual bar tape which had exactly the same suede-ey feel as the stupidly named new stuff, and in my experience it also lasts for years. Over time the suede-ey-ness does go but the tape ends up looking like the black leathery tape, but guess with lighter colours it may look a bit rougher over time, I've only ever had it in black.

  • It's on my gravel bike... just liked the fact it was a bit thick but not too thick. I'll see if I can find a local shop with it.

  • And thanks again, the stable may be swelled in the next month or so by another classic steel frame tarted up with modern-ish bits, so fingers crossed that should feature here soon. Don't want to say anymore until its in my possession, but its red, so it must be fast.

  • That is incredible.
Needs a pair of Mavic Open 4CD:

  • Double post

  • Today is my birthday (now i think i told everyone everywhere) so its finally getting built, at least partially. Went with silver post and stem instead of the carbon post with extralite stem i was planning for first. Been a while since i had a bike with silver stem or post (unless titanium but that dont really count).

  • Happy Birthday, bike looks incredible!

  • Looks amazing already. I have seen a few of the oversized ones and the lugs just look out of place, this is much nicer.

    And happy birthday of course!

  • yep loving that. and happy birthday dude. awesome present to self

  • Bike is a BANGER!

  • Thank you all :) Yeah i will be suprised if someone tops this gift today. Dont know what to hope for otherwise. At 45 maybe im hoping for the morning robe over the gluten free cookbook :)

  • I need to up my self-gift game.

Silver is the right choice here. HB @badboybjorn

  • HBD!
What is the stem? Your usual Zipp bars?

  • Thats a nitto caroline stem. Quite unusual to see but i took a liking to it.
    Yes contour sl bars.

Ive run into a snag on the build. The rs group i bought came with 32mm clamp adaptor. Took it off and the threads are shot. And instead there is somekind of spring inserted into the body to give the bolt something to grap. Wtf who does that :) Well if it worked i can see myself using it but it does not work for me and even if i could get the spring back in there i wouldent trust it and it would nag me. So i guess i have to get a new rs front derailleur before i can finish. Or borrow from tommasini hmm.. But still some 200 gbp or so. Shall have a chat with seller.

    Cheers :)
