  • Looking at the number of 7's you have there it's going to be more than a while cleaning it up. I'm about 4 years into cleaning mine and reckon I've got less than a hundred left to do. Got to start somewhere though!

  • Hoover to the top of the boxes first then in for a closer look I reckon... I should get some better singles boxes, maybe something with a lid... Anything good out there? Most of the 45s are in a plain paper sleeve inside a plastic sleeve so they should be okay, LPs need some TLC too...

My Action and Creation singles box sets were almost black with mould and dust along the top edge, some isopropyl alcohol fixed them but I was very worried they were FUBAR'd... I've neglected my records for ages, don't play vinyl often enough...

  • Well, I'm just a massive fan of Vitsoe shelving. On the other hand I was already designing some drawers for your 7" collection because it's so much nicer to have them in that orientation and flip through them. An easy thing to do would be plywood furniture that your current boxes fit in. Or even just plywood boxes the other boxes slide into so you can stack the whole lot and pull any box out. Could even be 15 or 12mm instead of 18.

If your Tascam CDR starts crapping out reading disks don't bin it. I fixed mine by changing a couple of caps in the power supply. It's kind of inevitable the original caps will fail sometime soon. I don't use mine any more because I record the vinyl for DJing and Rekordbox records anything you want so easily. Sadly if you give most people a cd these days they don't have anything to play it with.

  • I should be getting a Tascam 122 cassette deck in the near future, so the CD player will probably have to go... Won't be able to reach the mixer unless I do a @dubtap and go rotary, then I can keep all the formats!!

The display has gone a bit wonky on mine but it still plays CDs fine, I was so excited to get that thing BITD... Thanks for the tip!

I also need a shelf for the speakers, I realise that's a terrible place to put them...

  • LFGSS attachments don't seem to work in Firefox for me anymore. So there's a google drive image instead.

  • @>>>>>> some of my vinyl that I have put in plastic outer sleeves have mould on the cardboard sleeves.

@Airhead - how are you cleaning your collection?

  • How much you thinking on that Beastie Boys Anthology?

  • @dubtap possibly interested in the nuyorican. But not at those elevated discogs prices

and is there such a thing as a cheap rotary mixer?

my brain is so hardwired at this stage (old dog, no new tricks) that I can't even manage to stop touching the crossfader even when I have it switched off and am using the faders. Have only mixed on a rotary once and it sounded very nice but my brain was focusing too much on how to use the damn thing and not on the transitions.

  • Project RCM, I'm on the third warranty. My latest mix of cleaner is 40% alcohol, 60% water, about 16 drops of Tergitol, 8 drops of X-Flo (or whatever it's called!!)

I just cleaned the 7 inch collection from my Grans house via my Mum, about 80 disks. It's taken me 2 years to do it. They were filthy.

You don't get new records but they are clean enough. Problem is you then need to keep them away from the rotting paper covers so you need japanese style 7" anti static inner sleeves and while you're there you may as well enter them into discogs, create a label and stick it to a brand new sealable poly outer.

Only then will you know how far gone I am :) I'm happy though.

  • I just couldn't justify tape, no space for it. Such a big itch for it though. For shelves, all I can say is I'm totally happy with Vitsoe :) I know what I'd do. The 1210s fit perfectly on an upturned shelf, put 2side by side and the mixer in the middle. If you've got room for a couple of bays there it would be worth every penny imho.

Thing with Vitsoe is the design team will plan anything for you and show you how it looks. The whole process is easy enough, send them some measurements and a photo.

  • Nah, I'm good with my cheap and cheerful Kallax, does the job and keeps everything reasonably tidy and out of the main living space... I'm really looking forward to going through my 45s, there will be heaps of gems in there that I've forgotten I own... 🤭

  • Gear4music have rebadged the Omnitronic mixer and taken £100 off so its only £199.99

You could pay more for that just for the isolator

  • 2nd dibs on Nuyorican Soul if Kev doesn't want it. Will send a PM

  • I'm at the stage where I just can't squeeze enough hours into the day to keep checking out the stuff I have that I love. There's too much good music available now :)

I get it about the furniture. Considering I build furniture as part of my profession it's a very complicated subject. Mostly I just need more space than I can afford in C. London.

  • I have acquired about 80+ original David Bowie, pink Floyd, Beatles, the clash, ect and some special effects records perfect for showing off your new of the time hifi system.
My issue is my record player/ turntable is is a Audio technica lp60. So pretty much toy grade.
What would be a good start for an upgrade. I have a fairly good av system I'm hooked up to at the moment with an onkyo receiver and Dali speakers.
    Suggestions appreciated.

  • Its yours, loads of stuff I want to get just came on the latest Juno mailout so I'm going to spend this month's pocket money on that, I don't want to waste @dubtap 's time.

  • How much money do you have to spend?

Want to upgrade what you have or replace the whole lot?

  • About £200
Can't really upgrade what I have as it's not got the capability to do so aha.

Probably a turntable with a built in amp I'm not sure on options

  • My latest mix of cleaner is 40% alcohol, 60% water, about 16 drops of Tergitol, 8 drops of X-Flo (or whatever it's called!!)

I've found the Tergitol on ebay (just bought a bundle with the 15-S-3 and 15-S-9 ).
However cannot find that X-flo product anywhere.
My previous mix was based on Ilfotol I believe (ebay sourced again).
Shall I get another wetting agent or is that Tergitol stuff enough by itself?
The seller recommends a couple of drops from each solution added into alcohol and distilled water.

  • Finally had an evening to sit down and enjoy it.

  • possibly interested in the nuyorican. But not at those elevated discogs prices

One of the things I regret selling when I was brassic 20 odd years ago and couldn't afford rent. Prices seem to be all over the shop on Discogs.

  • I should have got the name right first time :-

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triton-X-100-Octoxinol-9-SURFACTANT-DETERGENT-Lab-Grade-Wetting-Agent-15ml/352988178218?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

I'm not sure if it's required with the tergitol but it's working well enough for me.

  • I had that first on CD in a digipack which for some reason became valuable so I sold it, then got the vinyl version a few years ago and didn't enjoy it so much so sold that.

It's such a brilliant album but I might have just listened to it too much.

I had a few copies of Subtemple/Beachfires which sold over a few years.

Really enjoyed having a proper listen through last night, but it did strike me that I know the album inside out from listening to it a lot previously. Will try and pick up his first album too as I’ve not given that as much time, so will hopefully be a bit fresher!
