  • Tall stack stems and carbon steerer tubes. I saw VO don't recommend it. Any guesses as to what the issue might be with this combo?

    The reason for not using a carbon steerer tube with the tall stack stem is a combination of the single pinch bolt at the base of the stem and the high amount of steerer tube inside the stem that could result in a crack in a carbon steerer tube due to the leverage placed upon it.

  • I would guess it is because the clamping part of that stem is likely going to be below the expander bung within the steerer tube. You can however get longer expander bungs which would solve this issue.

  • I figured that might be the case. I've got a couple of those long expanders in the cellar so might just give it a go.
