I have the same watch and mine does a little buzz beep when it gets a GPS fix, dunno if that helps! It generates an estimate of distance etc if I run without it getting a fix, I guess based on stride and cadence

So I’ve had an x ray and I’ve got calcification on my Achilles. I’ve been advised to do lists of calf raises to build up strength in the calf muscle.
The doctor I spoke to seemed sort of useless. Physio is 4 weeks away for a phone consultation.
Says I can run but need to be conscious that if it hurts stop.
Ffs!

Accidentally ended up doing a brutal session today. 7 miles into what was meant to be a 90 min easy run i bumped into an old training buddy who was 2k into 6x1k slightly quicker than 5k pace off 30s rest interval session so after a quick chat he talked me into jumping in for the last 4 reps so we could have a catch up on the easy jog home after. All reps from that point were under 3:20 into a headwind. He said his pace came down by 4s per km average just by having me chase him. I was just 2-3s behind him. I jokingly tried the social distancing excuse to justify that but he was just that little bit quicker. The efforts were hard but definitely easier to dig deep for having someone to chase. For the last year it's been fine training on my own but today made me realise how much I've missed group training and races. Hopefully not too much longer to wait🤞

I can understand sleeping through the conch, but your whole crew too?

She had no crew apparently.

Had a full kit wanker test run today, 15k easy then 13k a bit faster than marathon pace, the aeroswift shorts are so nice, just a shame there is no storage at all in them, love the alphaflys, the aeroswift vest is bloody freezing but that’s probably a good thing given I run pretty hot!
Into more proper taper mode now, although having a bit of a crack at a 5k PB on Thursday, my park run PB is 17:50 so would be nice to beat that... stretch goal is 17:11 which I did a Ross Barclay 5k last year!

having a bit of a crack at a 5k PB on Thursday
You're tapering for a Marathon PB & sub-3 attempt, no? Unless it's a really soft 5k pb that you'll hit at planned marathon pace I'd say the 5k pb should wait till you've recovered from the mara.

The problem is if you cycle with a HR Strap and run with a watch, you’ll end up with really stupid HR data and in turn crazy RE data and HR zone data.
My resting pulse is 40bpm, my Suunto watch shows 86bpm. My all out Max effort bike hr is about 175bpm but running on the watch something north of 220bpm which of course is bullshit -

Talking of stupid heart rate. I think I nearly died in my sleep last night

My heart says you’re wrong and 10 days is plenty to recover but my head says you are probably right...
My 5k is pretty soft, given that I’ve done a 1:23 half marathon in this marathon build and my plan has 30 mins threshold in it for Thursday, my threshold is therefore around 3:50 per km so I’d be looking at shortening session by 10+ minutes and increasing pace by 10 seconds or so per km...

Don't do it! Save everything for the marathon.

You said you thought i was pushing my luck when i said i was going to throw in a random 5k pb attempt so soon after my 10 mile pb but i felt good and thought IT'S ONLY A 5K but it tipped me over the edge and spent the best part of a week in a hole immediately afterwards. Form is such a tightrope once you've got it and I've found that the point that i feel i can do anything is actually the point I'm about ready to crack if I'm not careful. Just because you can doesn't mean you should and everything has been about this marathon so you should focus on that. Like everyone else though I'm much better at giving advice than taking it.

Thanks @rhb @juanito and @Retro_bastard consider me talked off a cliff. Will do session planned and no more...

Yeah agree with above, no need. Hate taper though, just builds so much nerves personally.

'just say no' to a 5k time trial.
On another note, I've started ramping up my mileage in preparation for marathon training for October. When did a 16 mile run become so long and tiring?

^ I could say the same and I didn't even manage 10!

Spent months upon months doing Achilles tendonosis rehab work after injury 2 years or so ago. Starting running again in the last couple of months but it's still there :(
Very present at the end of today's 13km. So depressing, feels like I'm never going to be rid of it!
Anyone know any good foot sports injury specialists around London?

Did you go from nothing to 13km over two months? My gut feeling says that's quite fast depending on how bad your tendonitis is/was and how long you rested for.
I had moderate tendonitis in both achilles in 2011 and it took me about 7 months to build up to 10km under physio supervision. Different injury I know but it took me a year to safely build up to 10km after an ACL tear. Achilles are slooooow to rehab.
I can recommemd a very good physio based in Greenwich. They were recommended to me by an army knee surgeon and have seen me right through two nasty injuries. PM if useful to you.

Joe Dale if you're east ish. Highly recommended by people I know and whose opinions I trust. Victoria Park based, in the clubhouse, I think, judging from the banner I see when I run past
Foook....
