  • I’m well into the GR Yaris

  • I rented one once. It was funny.

  • 1+

    Looks a lot of fun.

  • +2

Most interesting (relatively) affordable new car. Anyone driven one yet?

  • Absolutely. First new car in ages that I’ve wanted and may conceivably be able to afford at some point.

  • Last hurrah before the future.

Pretty much why I got the RS6. Can't imagine anyone's going to make a V10 twin turbo estate car ever again.

  • I just crept back 5 years to find pics of the RS6. very nice.

I think I'm going to do it. a manual V8 sedan. I think it will be fun.

question is what coilovers. the rest is sorted out.

  • KW's for ultimate german touring car / DTM vibe

  • I already am. Would love a 306 GTi-6 or a Rallye.
    Sold my ph1 106 Rallye for £1200 and my 205 1.9 GTi for £1k and a absolute shitter of a Renault 19 in part-ex :'-(

  • The problem is going to be finding any of them. Ive been looking at all that stuff recently and it's so hard to find them in any real numbers. The scrappage scheme killed a lot of that stuff.

    According to howmanyleft there are:
    80 306's rallyes liscensed as of 2020
    183 Saxo VTS
    123 106 Rallyes
    31 AX Gt

Its mad to think about such small figures for what I thought were such plentiful build numbers.

  • Saw one in the flesh at the Toyota dealership the other day, very swanky... Looks the biz...

  • Woah those numbers are super low. Shame as some fun cars there

  • Second for KW. Best corrosion resistance in the game.

  • Inox bodies are great

  • Ah they really are the best bar none. I had been giving strong consideration to an air setup for the Forester and I had also been hoping to keep things as JDM as possible but I think it will be very hard not to choose a KW setup for suspension.

  • There was my00 Gti6 advertised poorly on my local french car forum... 54,000 original kays, blue. $4000 aud. Didn't bother looking cause I don't need another 306... Anyway, guy on forum buys it. It's immaculate, in near new condition. Just needs a recommission service and good to go. Very jealous!

  • @Soul @mi7rennie talk to me about Leaf. But like I am 5 years old :P

    how/what/where/charger?!

  • like I am 5 years old

    Car goes zoom zoom

  • Do you have a driveway? What are you using the car for?

You can charge it using a normal house plug socket, but it'll take full 22-24 hours to charge from zero (not that you'll ever get that low). If that's fine, you just have to consider how you'll get the plug to it; do you have to have a window open (sucks in winter)? Do you have to have the lead over the pavement (trip hazard)?

You can get a car charger installed. You get a government discount on this if you have a driveway or garage to park the car. Should cost around £500 max and will charge the car to full in 5-7 hours from empty.

Leasing them is the best idea right now because of the evolving battery / motor tech.

Have you considered a Renault Zoe? Cheaper lease right now (double check this), similar cabin spec & size and gets better reviews for range in the new version.

  • Then I consider a new car like a near new Type R

nooo they are so hideous. spoiler is so barry boy/shed

  • Someone say Barry?

  • useful!

    Do you have a driveway?

    Yes

What are you using the car for?

Very very sparsely in London, I do see a trip every month-ish (once we are back to normal) to Rugby I have a few mates there. I know esp a used Leaf with 100 miles-ish range could be painful but ICE/Hybrid is out of question for me :)

You can charge it using a normal house plug socket

I was looking at Pod Point as it was the first google result. It was £549 I think.

Leasing them is the best idea right now because of the evolving battery / motor tech.

I get this as a tech nerd but I looked at their depreciation and its not 'that' bad. £8k for example gets me a 2016/17 Leaf with 30k miles on clock. The dealbreaker for lease mainly is insurance; first time insurer. 20/21 plate costs a bomb.

Have you considered a Renault Zoe?

I looked at this but I know someone who had a Zoe and now has a Leaf he said Leaf is more spacious internally. The biggest reason I am getting a car is because my (lazy) parents are blackmailing me in exchange of free child care when they visit so car seat + 4 people.

  • Just wait for the Ami, Amey.

On a side note- without tesla- which manufacturer has the best EV charge network set up.
    My minimal research suggests VW?
-Asking as the debate between Ford and VW heats up.

  • I do see a trip every month-ish (once we are back to normal) to Rugby

    :'(

  • Probably VW at the moment but Ford have spend a large amount in the US. Imagine they'll start doing that in the UK soon too.

They're all miles and miles behind Tesla though.
