  • It’s Sunday, does “this week” end at midnight or in 6 days time?

  • That’s a Theological question

  • The answer is here if you have CHF158

  • or an ecumenical matter

  • Depends on the tense used.
Are we going out this week? 6 days time.
Did we get a delivery this week? ends at midnight.

  • I realise this is a 'humorous memes thread', however many of the time/date inconsistencies here cause real problems. For example, calculation of the number of weeks in a quarter and thus e.g. bank interest may be dependent on local notions of when the week starts, which pre-date ISO standardisation. Keeps me employed though 👍

  • week starts on Monday though - a hill I will happily die on.

  • Unfollowed

  • As a Canadian I was wondering that too, I've only ever heard "of" in reference to time when I'm in UK and Europe.

    Also @bright

Well we do say “of” as in “quarter of twelve” as in 11:45. At least in New England, but the US is pretty big with lots of different regional ways of saying things.

    1. Yes

(That’s weird I typed 2 and it says 2 when I go into edit it but the forum changes Father Jacks other option to 1.)

  • Giant Naked Elon Musk riding a giant Doge

The guy who made this is dead serious about it but it's obviously being ripped to shreds on social media (mostly by graphic designers, ofc).

Well, he's deadly serious about making money out of it. Probably not about Elon.

  • The boots they made for him in Star Wars pinched horribly so he did all his scenes in his own lovely comfy slippers.

  • Have we had the US thing for "hundreds"?

Generally not fussed by Americanisms, but this gets me.

$1,500? Fifteen hundred, ok sure. It's shorter than saying one thousand five hundred. Likewise seventeen hundred, but they just keep going...

    $5,000? Fifty hundred! Come on.

    $7,000? Seventy hundred! Dude, wtf!?

    $10,000? Hundred hundred! plz stop!

  • It only really works for an amount of hundreds not divisible by 10. i.e. forty five hundred works but forty hundred doesn't.

  • That makes sense. But I still think 2k is the cut-off. After that people need to go back to proper numbers.

  • But, 4500 is divisible by 10?

  • Genuinely lol'd

  • Responding seriously to what is a silly discussion, I'll clarify that Americans typically say the following

    7:15 -
    "seven fifteen"
    "quarter past seven"

    7:30 -
    "seven thirty"
    "half past 7"

    7:45 -
    "seven forty five"
    "quarter to/till eight"

  • It’s Sunday, does “this week” end at midnight or in 6 days time?

    in 6 days

  • You wait until you hear about crore and lakh

  • That’s weird

Auto list numbering in markdown is just one of the many things in markdown which are a massive fucking PITA. If you want to write anything even slightly heterodox, you have to escape every fucking character. You even have to escape the word list in order to get the fucking parser to treat it as a word.

  • people need to go back to proper numbers.

    * laughs in lakh and crore*

    [Edit] late to the party
