  • It's an interesting one, given the soft signal, I can understand why it was given out. The question for me is the use of a soft signal in this type of thing, but not sure what the alternative is, I guess no soft signal and the benefit of the doubt is given to the batsman.

    Always used to be the way. Less so now with the soft signal, as you say. Decision made and it's in the book, so...

    Umpires can refer a catch themselves without the soft signal, like they already do for a stumping or run-out? (pretty sure they used to be able to do this anyway)
