This http://forums.roadbikereview.com/wheels-tires/h-son-archetype-need-facts-324730.html would suggest, as was my expectation, that you needn't worry about seeing the wear indicator but rather, not seeing it.
Some do it with a groove, some with a dot but in either case, it's once the rim becomes worn to the point where the indicator cannot be seen that it needs replacing.

This is useful. I have been advised that the rims on my wheelset are are shot and so I need to replace them asap. The wear indicator is still visible albeit not for much longer.
I know this thread has gone cold but out of curiosity does anyone know if Archetypes use a internal wear inductor. There seems to be a small dot appeared on my rim.
One year 3 months worth of use, including 2 trips to the big mountains.
