Currently wheels are Harden high flange gear sided/Constrictor Asp (good used)

Gnutti cottered crankset (excellent original chrome)
Simplex adapter arms and 46/49 alloy rings. (Excellent used-according to HS)
Holdsworth Allez pedals (excellent)
Christophe old logo toe clips (NOS) or GB stainless (NOS)

Magistroni Nik-Crom Bottom bracket (NOS)
Simplex Juy 53 cable operated front derailleur (NOS)
Simplex Juy 51 rear derailleur (NOS/refurbished)
Simplex double shifter (NOS)
Renold Elite chain (NOS)
Regina GS Corse 5sp freewheel 14/24 (Frankenfreewheel)
Gillott re-chromed stem (from a different frame but the same year)

I’m not convinced by the wheels, I’d love a pair of excellent Gnutti or FB low flange on some exotic clincher rims (I can’t be doing with tubulars I don’t think)

I have an aluminium pump that looks the part - but it probably 60/70s, would like an Apex Ultralight or a Zefal.

None of the NOS parts are box-fresh, but unused - so hopefully it’ll all hang together, not look over restored and too bling.

Frame going off to Argos as soon as possible. I’ve friends in Bath I’d like to visit so I may go in person when I can.

Sounds peachy. I get you on the wheels, they are great but all the rest is so continental! Like you say low flange Italian with quick release fits nicely. Fiamme clinchers come up reasonably often, that the kind of thing you mean? Personally I like tubulars.

One bit of nerdery for you, pretty sure the GB stainless were a couple of years later. Those Christophe toeclips are great, they get my vote.

If I could find a complete wheelset, I’d probs just trade the Harden/asp for it.

Those Fiamme clinchers do come up, don't think there are any on Ebay at the moment. Quite a wide spread in pricing between reasonable and silly money.

It went for almost £4k.

I reckon it’ll go over £2k.

Paint looks to be original.
Off the peg frame number, don’t know how those work.

Edit; just seen on FB it’s a ‘period respray’ (I saw it was an original Roundel 🤓) and it was made in 1948.

If the date is in front of the build number then it tends to be made to order, see picture.
If the date follows the build number its off the peg. To my eye the date on that lugless frame comes first.?

Yes I think you’re right. It was the first 9 that threw me. My Gillotts are both 50s so the frame no. starts with 5 ...

Incidentally the front forks on that lugless frame don't look right to me, Gillott dropouts are usually more slender than these. They actually look Holdsworthy ish. Not that I'm suggesting the frame isn't a Gillott but it might have something to do with the repsray..

It would certainly be easier and cheaper but I will hold out. There's no rush.

The owner of the little Nervex lugged Gillott mentioned above.

I found this pic. quite by chance yesterday in a copy of 'Wheel' for October 1957. This was the official journal of the NCU and so doomed to failure, but I just happen to have a copy.

Unfortunately the picture has not reproduced well, but I think you can get the idea. This was a six day stage race won by Stan Brittain and was one of the first continental successes on the road for this country. It certainly looks as though JP played a significant part.

I've acquired the frame myself with the intention of giving it to a grandchild, so if any suitable forks do turn up, I'm in the market for them.
