• I think I have got the last component for my Gillott build (unless @Nbenja3 has another rusty Gnutti splined chainset to tempt me off my no re-chromed straight and narrow!)

I just bought 2 alloy Simplex rings from Hilary - which seems almost like cheating; not finding them in a jumble or putting in a crafty bid on eBay.
Just got to get the frame painted and the stem re-chromed (I know, I can’t even follow my own arbitrary rules)

    But I’m excited

  • I like shopping from Hilary. If you can manage to force him to take your money you do get the good stuff 🤓

Go on then what’s the build spec?

There’s a proper order and language for this isn’t there?
    I don’t know it.

    1952 Gillott Connoisseur
    Pale cream, green double box-lining.
    Magistroni Nik-Crom Decagon headset. (Excellent)

Currently wheels are Harden high flange gear sided/Constrictor Asp (good used)
    Pasela 27x 1 1/4
    Reynolds wingnuts (excellent)
Gnutti cottered crankset (excellent original chrome)
Simplex adapter arms and 46/49 alloy rings. (Excellent used-according to HS)
    Holdsworth Allez pedals (excellent)
Christophe old logo toe clips (NOS) or GB stainless (NOS)

    Magistroni Nik-Crom Bottom bracket (NOS)
Simplex Juy 53 cable operated front derailleur (NOS)
Simplex Juy 51 rear derailleur (NOS/refurbished)
    Simplex double shifter (NOS)
    Renold Elite chain (NOS)
Regina GS Corse 5sp freewheel 14/24 (Frankenfreewheel)
Gillott re-chromed stem (from a different frame but the same year)
    Strata Pelissier handlebars (very good)
    (Or maybe Reynold Maes (fair))
ALP Competition brake set (v good)
Strata or Reynolds dome top seat pin (v good)
Brooks B17 Champion Narrow - oval badge (possibly unused- in excellent condition)

I’m not convinced by the wheels, I’d love a pair of excellent Gnutti or FB low flange on some exotic clincher rims (I can’t be doing with tubulars I don’t think)

I have an aluminium pump that looks the part - but it probably 60/70s, would like an Apex Ultralight or a Zefal.

None of the NOS parts are box-fresh, but unused - so hopefully it’ll all hang together, not look over restored and too bling.
