What's the difference between the BH59 and BH90 hoses? Shimano instructions say the 4700 levers should use the former, and my r7020 should use the latter. Are they cross-compatible or would I need to stick to what Shimano are saying?

They´re cross compatible(ish) according to the internet. The bh90 has a different internal diameter, hence the proprietary barb, but the outside diameter is the same. As I understand it bh90 works with everything but possibly bh59 won't work with some more modern brakes. The olives are a little different, idk if that's why bh59 won't work with newer brakes? I've just fitted bh90 hose to a pair of mtb calipers which would have vome with bh59 hoses originally, no issues as far as I can tell.

I’ve also bought some bh90 hose off Amazon, the ad said “Tbest” but it was branded as something else when it arrived. Have fitted it and the included barbs + olives without issues but not actually bled and used the brakes yet.
