I dunno where it comes from, but when telling the time, my mum says "it's a five and twenty to / past....(the hour)" instead of simply twenty five to / past.... whatever the hour is.
She only does it for 25.

"5 and twenty past" is for when the big hand is past the 4 but not as far as the 5, was my understanding. After 20past, but not as late as 25past.
