Common sense helps. Go slow. See how deep it goes. if it looks like the water line is going to come up higher than your air intake, then it's prolly not a good idea to proceed, innit.
If you go fast you will create a bow wave which will come up and over the bonnet/windscreen and will obviously flood the engine bay.
I'm no expert forder tho. Have been through 2ish feet with a very gentle side on current in the Disco with the suspension raised which was probably pretty stupid in hindsight considering i dont really have any idea what im doing. Even going slowly pushed the water up pretty high.
