  • I bought a tin from the supplier too, which they said should be enough. I'm a bit wary of oil stains, but the popularity of terrazzo and the lack of disaster stories online suggests this may be unwarranted.

  • Bathroom is getting there... feel a bit smug how this worked out.

    Shit pic but don't care.

  • grout line doesn't bisect the flush panel. rip it all out and start again imo

  • I know, it's 4mm out, I had to let it slide but was a couple of sleepless nights.

  • that floor tile grout line not joining the wall is bugging me
looks lovely and is probably the route ill go down myself not diespecker money though

what was your process for tiling walls - tiled straight on? - 1 of our walls its pretty flat and smooth but the wall where sink is attached is soft/crumbly so need to be reskimmed - but was completing applied something like kerdi board all around the bathroom where we want to tile - might be overboard i know

grout doesn't bisect the sink trap either. chrisbmx are you OK

  • nothing like a brutal online tear down of your new premium bathroom by a bunch of cyclists

  • The important tile junction (for me) is out of shot, its where the vertical from the bath and window meet so everything to the left of that was secondary. @musa prob could have if I had got an architect in to do perfect plans and renders but not worth the £K IMO.

  • For the amount of big talk I deserve it..

some of the dumb shit I've dealt with in this house - first couple months of moving in - my CH system went to piss with leaking TRVs, leak from soldered fitting

  • yeah suppose your right - im trying to do all the research now to carry the prep work myself so just seeing which way to go with things
quite frankly its a mess - ive already had to change the toilet

  • Today's toys out of the pram moment was investigating the recently kaput bathroom light to find the smashed fitting inside the glass shade, the FIVE INCH SCREWS holding the fitting to the ceiling screwed straight into the ceiling plaster and the two wires connecting the fitting to the circuit both being green and yellow.

Pulled the guts out of the fitting (as we wanted to keep that) and replaced with the guts of a new pendant fitting. Re-attached it properly to the ceiling and put an appropriate bulb in.

  • Also used my cheapo usb inspection cam to check the FIVE INCH SCREWS hadn't done something ungodly inside the ceiling cavity. Those things are great. Anyone doing any kind of DIY+ should get one. Saves knocking a bigger hole in the house.

  • You make a great point. The ability to zoom out and focus on the whole concept while maintaining an eye on the minute details is something I couldn’t manage. Defo melted once or twice. Regardless happy with the results and there will always be some form of compromise.

  • Bog looks nice Chris.

A good thread on why details matter: https://twitter.com/themiasandrist/status/1365166195960242180?s=09

  • That skylight is outrageously good.
I want one but no real point if I plan on getting a loft done.

  • Anyone got any good recommendations for loft extension design/build companies in SE London?
Looking to get ours done at some point this year and compiling a list to start getting the ball rolling. Already got a couple of architects and been in touch with create-spaces.co.uk who I think were mentioned on here a while back.

  • Is fixing 22mm flooring direct to joists a daft idea to save on some labour and materials? Or would I be better off paying for a sub floor to lay flooring on top of?

  • What kind of flooring is it?

If it was me I’d sheet the floor so it was flat and level before laying my fancy new flooring.

  • Whats the flooring?
I have just had 12mm ply fitted directly to joists, which was a tough job as they were all over the shop and daft thin ply was the only way to get the floor to line up with. the floorboards without having a threshold step. To make it more rigid noggins were fitted every 400mm to create a grid for the ply to be screws down to. It appears to be working so far.

Utility "room" question. Should I have cupboards to hided the dryer and washing machine or should I get bifold doors for the entire space. Floor plan attached...

  • Forgot to reply to the question part of this.
Yeah, all our walls were shit so every wall you see tiled is onto board which is either dot dabbed onto the wall or battened out and then boarded. The sink and toilet are hanging on a built out wall which you can't really tell from the photos I have taken.

  • Neither. A door inside a door just seems annoying

  • No particular floor in mind yet. I've had quotes for engineered wood on top on a ply sub floor. X2 material and X2 labour adds up. So I wondered if I could lay 22mm t&g boards, preferably hardwood, straight onto the joints to reduce some cost
