Are you running a freewheel?
-
• #3
No, fixed all the way @Retro_bastard
However I might consider going without a lock ring. The course is flat and I have a front break - not sure how awful an idea that is -

I'd check with the organisers first as I'm pretty sure your not allowed to ride a fixed gear. Singlespeed is ok but you definitely need a front and rear brake and there will be a marshall checking your bike on the way into transition and your brakes are the one of the first things they check.

Just checked the British triathlon rule book and for fixed gear bikes you have to apply for permission from the British triathlon technical committee at least 30 days prior to the event and provide proof to the event organisers if your permission is granted. You need a front and rear brake otherwise the marshall will deem it unroadworthy. Most events are British Triathlon sanctioned so these rules will apply.

Ahhhh shit. Well thanks very much for the heads up before I got very far down the rabbit hole @Retro_bastard
I guess fitting a rear brake is probably out of the question so maybe it’s gears after all for me :(

Just get some fast wheels for your road bike instead if you want to spend some money 😁
-
• #8
I already have.
The problem is, my road bike is a Colnago master x light. And it’s complete bastardisation putting extensions on it.
I’m going with it thanks to your advice, but it makes me want to slap myself.

Yeah it'll look shit for a couple of days but you won't be leaving them on. Or just get some retro tri bars and go for this look

Not the riding in your pants look obviously 😁

Ah saw this too late! Just sold a trispoke a few hours ago, and a 5 spoke two days ago, also Bristol based... Damn
Would like to see pictures of that colnago master X though if you don't mind
Edit: didn't see the disc wheel bit until now, have one of those (track) if you're interested

Yes show us the master on the course.

Current bastardisation level =
Ism saddle
Skis
Shit seatpost with less setback than my normFurther bastardisation to include weird seatpost to bring me further forward.

You know what... I didn't think I would, but I love it. Haven't seen a nago built up like this, great that it's getting some TT use! Didn't think 28c tyres would fit on a colango
Gold chain aswell for those watt savings, good choice
If you wanted to only borrow a trispoke for the TT feel free to PM me

Thanks man.
I love it as a road bike but not like this! 28s and the steel make for such a comfortable ride, but it’s still spritely!
I also only gold chain. Hip Hop slave for life.
That’s a very generous offer of you but I have actually since won some wom on eBay - so will likely use it (or not) and then sell up afterwards.
Doing a triathlon in may.
Decided I’m gonna do it on my track bike for fun as I’m in no danger of winning anything.
Want a trispoke for old times sake and maximum wom.
Clincher or tubular fine. Specialized/Hed/Corima(5) preferably
Will need posting as I’m in Bristol
Potentially also interested in rear disc wheels because I’m feeling that silly
