  • Have you tried nail varnish?

I’ve actually just ordered a broken Sr11 RD with the intention of replacing the cage - I believe it’s just a case of removing these two circlips and then the cage should come away. For spraying you could then just mask the rear titanium parts of the cage.

I haven’t done it myself yet but will be trying it soon and can let you know how easy/hard it is

  • My worry with nail varnish in this case is that it is basically the same as clear modelling lacquer with the same sort of applicator so will most probably still leave marks. I'm going to get the lacquer touch up pen as mentioned above so will try that too. Masking and spraying isn't a bad shout, I could rub back any plastic that gets a bit of lacquer on.

  • So I took apart the sr11 FD and it was surprisingly easy, all I used was a small flat head screwdriver to pop off the little circlips (recommend holding it all in a paper towel so you don’t lose the tiny little clips). Then you just push the pins out (pictured) and the cage can just come away.

From there the whole mechanism is really easy to clean. I haven’t put it back together yet as I’m waiting for a replacement cage from a donor mech but I don’t expect that will be any more difficult.
