  • I reckon black , and more specifically anthracite uPVC will age and date a period house quickly. On trend atm, but likely to look dated fairly fast.

How long are you going to be in the house? If it's for a few years then I don't think it matters as much. If you plan to stay for decades, then it does.

If it is to be uPVC, the flush windows look way better than the more old fashioned frames. Simple square edge frames are also better looking than sculpted or bevelled profiles. If it has to be dark colours proper ral 9005 black will look way better than anthracite imo.

I think there are other ways of adding contrast colour wise too . For example the parts of your front that are currently white in the pic

  • Flush window like below.

As an aside, Im changing my windows to black. Though my house was built in he 1960s

  • That black and white house across the road looks awful.

Black upvc casement windows with plantation shutters 🤦‍♂️

  • White shutters too - for that full effect.

  • And we are not going to mention the shed bolted on to the front door? Place has been decimated. While taste is of course subjective, this is just wrong.

  • Maybe if black windows were really your jam then something like this - couldn’t find a great example of arched windows and two, one window layout

Is the front of yours rendered? Looks like some nice brick detail around the window and those arches could be lovely.

  • Speaking of black windows. This is what we're aiming for. Including the planting.

  • Yeah that’s lovely, looks a shade off black with a hint of navy.

  • That’s an all in effort - which combined with the quality or planting and quality of the brickwork looks spot on.
I’m not sure about the external shutters

  • Just why do you want to replace the perfect forum colours? :)

(6pt will be along in a moment to say they're *not* the forum colours. :) )

  • On a dif note, I’m trying to find an orange utility room, or corridor, think it was an upstairs one, prob by one of the usual ya but I’m coming up blank... calling on the boys @Sheppz @cozey

  • Come to think of it, all forum houses should be painted like this from now on, so you can DAS them.

  • We're not having the shutters. A little too colonial.

  • Then it gets đź‘Ť from me

  • Nah. Have that one saved. Good reference.

  • Hmmm anything to go by other than orange?

  • Current logo pink would be better!

  • Ah, but then people might think you're living off your Giro. :)

  • thanks all for the inspiration, i think it has more depressed than inspired though, all those lovely fronts i just can't see mine being anywhere near as nice as any of those on my meagre budget, if i had more i'd certainly consider getting back to the brickwork and re pointing but that is just a bit too much dosh

white with white pvc windows it is !

  • There’s defo more you can do than white on white! Are you painting it yourself or getting someone in? Because if the later they will need to sort the render out around the windows in some way regardless. Thin black pvc could work....

  • there's a house on our street that's gone with a darker riff on glasgow corporation green (which would be the period correct colour for our 1920s terraced housing.) it looks wicked against the red sandstone. if we ever get our front done, we're going for that colour I think

  • I know bedrooms are money, but where do all those people live when they aren't in bed? That surely isn't a family home?
