  • I thought cruise was fairly common. Mine had it. No resume function though which is a bit of an omission.
Heated seats were the rare option, not that I ever used them, as it lived in the garage.

Don’t get an Anniversary or anything with the sports suspension option, as it’s too competent to be fun on the road, and maybe don’t get an S but get a 2.7 instead because the engine is only really good when you rev the tits off it and in a 3.2 you just can’t without risking your licence.

  • Still wish I’d got an SLK 320 instead though.

  • Cool picture. Based on Brommers comment I checked the weight - 930kg - so it's actually heavier than an Elise.

  • Look at the differences between an elise chasis and the renoir.

EDIT: Do not forget to look at which of the two have chasis corrosion and failure issues.

  • For the rust ;)

  • That’s interesting about the 2.7 over the 3.2 - I’m on a Boxster forum and the hive mind over there is thinking along the same likes as you.

As for the anniversary, they’re still holding their money and I gather the sports suspension was a rather expensive option at the time that most buyers didn’t take up.

The missus has heated seats in her land yacht and I thought I’d unwittingly soiled myself before I realised that this thing was set to Turkish prison™️ Levels of “warming”

  • The carpet is a sort of light purpley blue and just looks wrong, to my eyes. I think Alcantara will be a nice detail change that people won’t immediately spot but that will change the character of the interior.

  • The anniversary suspension would be M030 I assume? That’s just Billstein B4 with -10mm springs, or maybe B6 (not sure on the Boxster).

The thing that will make a massive difference is how the car is aligned (and whether there’s any life left in the dampers).

Not sure on the 2.5/2.7 but the crank is shared between the 3.2 and the 3.4, it’s really only cylinder bore and intake that separates 986 from 996.

I’m struggling to remember now but the 3.2 Boxster cams may be the same as the 3.4 911 engine also.

  • Good Boxster chat. I was mulling one over the other day as a lol about in car. Keep us posted @handtightenonly!

  • Ive got a facelift 986 S and absolutely love it. It has the M030 suspension and is a little rough but no major issue. Took it down to the Amalfi coast a couple of years ago and it was superb. We fitted enough in it for a two week holiday and had enough space to bring a few bottles of wine and sausage back.

    up the Gospel pass

  • The general consensus is that there’s no such thing as a cheap Porsche. Similarly there’s definitely no such thing as a cheap Ferrari, but I have no desire to own one.

I’m prepared to do a certain amount of spannering myself (plugs/oil & fluids/brakes etc), but anything more complex will require a fairly sympathetic mechanic over the course of time. I have one for the M3 and I’ll probably give him any purchase that I go on and make.

For once in life I have the space to be able to do these things and look forward to making changes over the course of time.

I’m between Essex, London and the West Country at the moment, so the ULEZ extension is something to consider as well

  • Don’t buy a cheap one...

  • Excellent stuff - this is the dream.

A road trip through the great food and wine places

  • so the ULEZ extension is something to consider as well

I've not been paying close attention to the discussion above - so this might not be useful. I've ULEZ registered my '99 996 (3.4L engine). It doesn't have the right Euro rating, but Porsche will give you the emissions numbers fairly happily and they meet the TFL levels comfortably.

I've only loosely followed what's going on above, but if they share a lot of engine parts I imagine it's quite possible that you could get a Boxster registered as well.

  • Ok, it is just a lowered celica, or am I missing something?

    Late reply, but not quite

  • This is good to know!

  • How addicting does M3 CSL intake noise in the new Harry's Garage sound?

  • Yes I said addicting

  • up the Gospel pass

    Dirty get

  • Couldn't quite put my finger on what i don't like about the Corvair but then i looked up the Bolt motorbikes website...

Shame as it's a lovely car but Alfaholic/DDK/Cafe racer stuff is getting mega bucks built to order dull these days for me.

  • An Alfaholics build can go as far as £300k +

Largely why I’ve applied for a job with them

  • Back in the day the Alfaholics were my favourite track days at CC but now i only see them on sunny Sunday morning's in Dulwich. Maybe they've always been banker toys and i've just started to notice it.

Be a great place to work, good luck.

  • I see they've got a full carbon version now, incase the 290 wasn't light/spendy enough for you

  • Big news: one of only 2 privately owned Chrysler Turbines is up for auction (Jay Leno has one)

UPDATE: it's sold. Need to know how much, Im going to go with $8m
