I used to be quite fixated on not stopping during a session, it's easy if i'm in the house myself but when there's a 4 year old marching around loudly announcing she really needs a poop I don't take the chance that my wife has it covered

Completely agree with that.
I generally do any workouts when the kids are not in the house (nursery/school) as watching daddy cycling and putting fingers on moving chains and cassettes is far more interesting than whatever else that they would have been doing. -

I've squeezed the turbo into a corner of the kitchen behind the table - laptop on table, drive side closest to the wall, back wall directly behind me so I can only be approached from one angle. Daughter likes to assist by grabbing my feet & helping spin them - she has waist length hair which she won't tie back despite looking like cousin it, I have to stop sharpish when I see her coming in case she gets stuck in anything.
Do folk on here tend to keep doing turbo sessions when the weather picks up? I tend to get about 100 flat miles in per week commuting when the weather's ok (starting again next week) then a couple of hours of hillier stuff at the weekend - I feel like the harder interval sessions have benefited me over the winter though, is it worth trying to throw an hour on the turbo per week just to hit the correct numbers? I don't use a pm on the road so unless i'm going for every hill 100% there's a good chance i'll be working lower than I would be on the trainer.

If you have the inclination is good to do 1 or two high intensity intervals on the turbo a week and fill all the zone 2 stuff with outside rides.
I'm not serious or organized about training. I use the commutes as recovery/zone 2, not long enough for anything else. I do longer, tempo intensity commutes when weather and legs allow, hilly long rides when I can.
I always try to fit a VO2 session a week on the trainer, maybe more stuff at different intensities if I'm not riding out much -

Don’t see why not. Fitting in a turbo session when you’re doing 20 miles a day commuting might be tricky though.
If you treat it like going to the gym, and have a harder target driven session perhaps?

Cheers, sounds sort of what I was thinking of - only been doing indoor riding since start of December (a sufferfest road training plan) & found it ok, took my mtb out at the weekend on a local loop & felt pretty fresh - i'm definitely fitter than I usually am after the winter, just want to try & keep that up as I don't really push myself when i'm out on the road.
@Acliff - yeah, treating it like a dedicated training session once, maybe twice per week is what i'm looking at, I work Mon-Thurs and usually cycle in 3 days per week on average - it's a 35 mile round trip so that provides a good amount of low/medium intensity stuff, so it's good training for long steady rides but if I try to push on a bit, or even a couple of sharp digs on hills i'm done fairly quickly.

I have a tacx blue motion t2600 for sale if anyone can collect from sw14 - £35 in good condition apart from the cable to adjust resistance has worn through plastic outer in one part but its still fine and works perfectly, it has an inner metal protective sleeve.

Two months have passed since Arrow XL picked up my old broken trainer, and today after loads of emails, tweets, Twitter DMs and opening a case on Resolver, I have been told that I will be getting a replacement tomorrow.
I did want to use it with the kids whilst they were off school, but now they're back at school.
I have also got a 20% off voucher. Not sure if I trust Sports Direct with any more of my money. Maybe buying some trainers or a £1 football, but not a £900 item.

Fan arrived today.
A revelation to me! Usually I am in a cold garage with a dripping wet but cold T-shirt. Today’s workout felt nippy but I finished and was barely damp. Feels a lot less gross.
It may have saved me the cost of sweatbands too. #lfgssmaths #spendwaymorethanyousave

Training in the outdoors on a turbo helps a little.

This, my turbo when I lived in london was set up outdoors. Here it is in the garage and I could open the doors during summer and it’s fucking freezing. But I would get drenched in sweat. Fan is a revelation and finishing sessions with a little damp patch on the middle of my back rather that a t shirt dripping wet is a big improvement.

Protip. If you've got a Vacmaster and an indoor clothes airer, clothes dry really quickly.

Clothes pegs are needed on anything higher than setting one. Three dries clothes in minutes.

Not too bad. It's still not as loud as my GFs fancy Dyson hair dryer. But, it shifts an incredibly amount of air.
