  • On the evidence of last year, yes. He might have had a disappointing season by his own, high standards, but he still finished in the top ten in over twenty races last year. He also missed the cobbled classics due to his previous commitment to ride the Giro.

  • I’m interested to see how some of the older riders have adapted to training in a pandemic. G openly said on his podcast that in the first lockdown he stopped training and didn’t expect summer tours to run. He did random things like riding 24hrs on Zwift to support the NHS, which would have had quite an impact on his routine. Friebos said Sagan was going very well at the end of 19 season, before the pandemic, but didn’t come out of it in his usual form.

It seems like the young guns adapted to pandemic training well, and came out of the first lockdown firing on all cylinders whereas the older generation were a bit sluggish. So I hope this season we’ll see the likes of Sagan and G on top form as they’ve realised racing will go on and they need to adapt.

For Tirenno, I’m most excited at Ganna and Sagan playing with Wout and MvdP. I want to see more big-lad haymakers.
