  • People can and do change and, as I said, it’s awful if they left the country because of racism.

    But he was 25 when the racist video was filmed, so young but not that young. If he’d have acknowledged, apologised and explained how and why he’d changed then good on him. But he hasn’t, at least not in reference to current events, and the hypocrisy rather dilutes the compassion I feel towards him.

    Is it hypocrisy? Or is it that he's somebody you don't know personally and of whom you have no knowledge of what he has said and done privately?

    By which I mean, of course he could be a hypocrite...but how do you know?

  • He complains about something he himself has also done with no acknowledgement of his own wrongness. Call it something other than hypocrisy if you prefer but it doesn’t sit well with me.
