  • I was phoned up earlier by an insurance broker who got my details from my mortgage broker. My mortgage broker did not mention this to me. I am mildly annoyed and also wondering how to tell them to go away, politely, tomorrow when they phone back (earlier I said I was in the middle of work and could they call me tomorrow.)
I didn't like much about the interaction - especially the 'I just need to confirm your details as part of our security procedure' on an unsolicited call. The company seem legit enough, but I'm just not interested and I kinda hate that shit.

I'm not much interested in unsolicited phonecalls. I'll let you know if I'm interested. Please take me off all your marketing lists. Thanks

I'm always tempted by the 2nd option of asking them how I should be able to verify who they are and then why I might not be happy to jump through hoops providing security details to a random on a phone. But then I figure I've got other things to waste my time on and go with option 1

I was thinking this but not thinking fast enough while on an unexpected phonecall. It just felt dodgy, and this is how scammers get people, isn't it - lean on their politeness.
