Interesting one. Particularly as currently there are restrictions on moving around for all but the essential. Supposedly.

You are allowed to move around to obtain services from businesses that are open and bicycle shops are allowed to open so you should be fine to take your Brompton in for a flash.

Yes and no, not all Brompton dealers are Brompton Electric dealers.

think its mostly to get people doing it sooner rather than later

Dynamo rear lights where /how can you fit them to a Brompton if you don’t have a rear rack? Can it sit where the rear reflector normally is? And how long does the cable need to be to run from front light to rear, and still let the bike fold?
Also any rear lights recommended for bromptons/better for bromptons? Or just get whichever one I like? -

Sits here:
Too low IMO, I only have front dynamo and a rear blinker on the saddle rails

Mounts in the same place as the reflector - I think it needs 50mm bolt spacing rather than 80 (but that's from memory - check first!). If you're going to take it on trains, the standard Brompton Dyno rear (rebadged Spanninga Solo IIRC) has a standlight but no way to short the capacitor. Showing a red light on a platform is a no-no, so you end up having to cover it on platforms, which is a pain. I replaced mine with a B+M Topline Plus (with a 'kill standlight' button) which is fine, apart from the fact that the connectors are on the other side of the light to the solo, so the standard wiring loom is a bit on the short side. Wouldn't be a problem if installing from scratch. IMO the light placement isn't a problem - if you're close enough to a car that they can't see it (e.g. in stop-start traffic), then they should be able to see you, and if they're not looking, then I'm not sure a light will make any difference. I do have a blinky under the saddle, but that's just a backup - I don't normally have it on.

How can that be such an issue with UK train drivers legendary route knowledge? Perhaps in a different part of the world where trains are driven on sight of signal without having to know where the signal is beforehand.
Fortunately the Brompton rear light is shit and the standlight function will fail fairly quickly.

Thinking i might get this one, cheapish, liking the old 50s glasses look, and small enough to not get in the way on the back of the brompton

How do people get a proper service with no local authorised places? I'm in Cardiff, have a Brompton that has been through two winters and barely cleaned so is covered in rust, could do with some of the regular services (hinge / seatpost sleeve etc) but I don't trust the local Evans to do a good job - suspect some of the problems started very early due to their fairly poor set-up of the bike

Thanks, they look quite good!

Buy a RuckRaft, swim across the Bristol Channel and take it to SJS. Lovely day out, check the tides.

Post it/have courier collected to sjs, email brompton@sjscycles.com

Will provide a coffee / biscuits for anyone who completes a channel swim to drop off for service!

question, I'm assuming it is, but is the son edelux, small enough to mount on the fork of a brompton?
missed out on one on the forum but just noticed that sjs have a sale on for version 1, which I might pick up. -

is that on the sjs website?
Don't worry found it.
It says the brakes will still be able to stop the bike.
What I'm confused by is what happens after September 2021. Are they going to try to charge you for a firmware upgrade if you come in with a dangerous bike?
