Has anyone had an undermount sink and kitchen worktop installed recently?
Got the templater coming on Monday for the worktop and suddenly concerned about how in position they will expect the sink to be.

I had it done. Didn’t need the sink in place at all. You just tell them where it’s going.
The units need to be exactly right though.

• #27905
Probably would if you were 6.5”...luckily we are all short. Adjusting it to a short drop took forever.

Ok, thanks.
So does the sink end up attached to the worktop? Or does it need a frame to sit down into.

We had a downstairs toilet installed when we renovated and a month after we've moved in there's a 'drains' smell in there.
I just unscrewed the black cap on the plastic pipe on the right (I have no idea what purpose it serves) and when the cap is off there is a draught coming into the room which smells of drains.
We will have the company who did the renovation back for snagging in around a month, so if it requires a plumber that's fine. However if someone knows an easy fix, or something I need to check out sooner than that I would appreciate some plumbing knowledge!
EDIT just realised the black thing is marked. It's an 'Air Admittence Device'

Why is the seat up?
-

Gonna be a fun job dusting that

• #27910
It isn't.

It looks like a durgo value, you use it to ventilate the soil pipes and stops smells coming into the room. Hence why you get a smell when its off.
-
• #27912
Why is the smell coming in when it's on then?

Like an XL siphon trap?

Something ain’t working. Got enough water in the u bend? Sure the pipe work is good? Is the one way valve on the valve stuck open?
Are you sure yours is done right?.
Air admittance valves, when installed, must finish above the highest flood level of the space the valve is in. E.g. If the valve is in the same room as a wash hand basin, it must be higher than the overflow of that basin. This is so the pressure equalisation can occur without breaking the water in the traps
(It might be sucking the water in your basin trap away allowing foul air up through the sink)

So it's a plumbing error then. Ta.
The sink doesn't have an overflow but it's below the level of the sink full stop.

The company that did my install stuck the sink on while putting the granite in. No frame. It just hangs.

Theres probs some back pressure and its opening, its still connected to a soil pipe. Theres something not right, usually you would fit it behind a wall so you wouldnt get the smell into the room and it would be in the cavity.

Brilliant. Glad to hear

I like that, we have a similar, plainer design at ours. If those shades are glass I recommend you find some spares sooner rather than later as they look like they could bash each other. We've had to replace a few, mainly from people waving their hands in the air like they just don't care.

That’s a good shout - will see if some spare glass bits can be had.

Any tips on stopping draught coming in under skirting boards? There is a couple of mm gap between the flooring (premium vinyl click stuff) and the skirting board.
Do I stuff some 10mm joint foam strip all the way round?
Should I clear silicon it? -
• #27922
10mm sounds like a significant gap, a while cm?
-
• #27923
It’s not a 10mm gap, but the smallest joint filler foam strips come in 10mm I think?

Ah, ok. I reckon stuffing something made for 10mm I to that gap won't look very tidy.
Foam strips for gaps around doors come in a variety of sizes. But I'd lean towards silicon if there is not much movement.

Yeah silicon, or just bog standard decorators caulk would do it. Lay masking tape on the floor if you’re not a super expert at caulking, as it save a lot of faff after.
Looks like it will hit your head
