  • We had a downstairs toilet installed when we renovated and a month after we've moved in there's a 'drains' smell in there.

    I just unscrewed the black cap on the plastic pipe on the right (I have no idea what purpose it serves) and when the cap is off there is a draught coming into the room which smells of drains.

    We will have the company who did the renovation back for snagging in around a month, so if it requires a plumber that's fine. However if someone knows an easy fix, or something I need to check out sooner than that I would appreciate some plumbing knowledge!

    EDIT just realised the black thing is marked. It's an 'Air Admittence Device'

  • It looks like a durgo value, you use it to ventilate the soil pipes and stops smells coming into the room. Hence why you get a smell when its off.
