• Not quite reaching the heady heights of 64cm, but I’ve got a 63cm Pinarello Asolo frame for sale in the classifieds if anyone’s looking

  • I've seen this frame in the flesh, if I didn't need a step ladder to get on it, it would be mine

  • Anyone, anything nice for sale? F and F or complete bike ( shimano or campag, no sram ) rim brake only. 61cm plus please for little old 6 foot 6 me.

I need cheering up, something to break the Covid doom and gloom. I am just looking atm tbh but if sth extra special came along that would be a different matter.

Thanks so much fellow giants. Take care, stay safe.

  • Haha I know the feeling @Bigteef. Buying bike stuff is defo my form of escapism. My partner watches Netflix, I buy bikes I can’t afford 😂

I’m on the look out for an ‘adventure/gravel’ bike if anyone has anything they’re not using? Or even if you fellow big fellas have any advice on what you’ve ridden that works for you?
    I’m 6ft 9.

  • its most def my form of escapism !! LOL.. Mrs bigteef is watching Marcella on Netflix and im perving...not at porn..but at bikes in the other room..lol

  • adventure, gravel ?

Canyon it is and at 6 foot 9, you need a 3 XL..most definitely...a 2 XL fits me lovely in a Canyon and im only 6 foot 6

  • Yeah they stopped making the 3XL a little while back sadly. They do look pretty good for the money

  • I've got a 3XL Canyon Ultimate, I really like it but finds spares can be a hassle, especially now its more difficult getting parts from Germany.

I've been searching for an XL Specialized AWOL, not many around though.

  • @scotts I hadn’t seen the AWOL before. What is it about them that appeals? They look like they can take an ever chunkier tyre. Are they any bigger than the likes of the Diverge 64cm?

  • I like the utilitarian look and the fact it looks like an old MTB frame with drop bars and gravel tyres. Probably better off with my Surly Ogre but would still like to find an AWOL.

  • Have you got drop bars on your Surly Ogre? They look like great bike packing bikes. I can’t get the idea of a custom titanium frame out of my head.....which is a shame cause they’re so bloody expensive!

  • At your height I'd say go for it. I'm only 6'6 (albeit mostly leg)

This frame cost about £700 after shipping/taxes, photoed with 42mm but also fits 2" tyres

  • ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..that is nice...lovely way to start a Friday..v v nice

  • @pjhobs
Ooooohhh that’s what I’m talking about!
Who made that for you? I was looking at some custom builders. Burls look good but were a little out of my price range but £700 is an absolute bargain for the frame alone. I’m happy to slowly build up the other components as and when I can afford them.

  • I had drop bars, then went to risers, I've now bought another drop bar setup but haven't fitted yet, I'm currently running a pretty long stem with riser bars and clip on aero bars but they're deadly on gravel, nearly impaled myself on one a few weeks ago after crashing in a pothole.

My brother has a SOMA Double Cross in a 66cm, one of those might fit your requirements?

  • Thanks all!

@Haystacks - It was made by Waltly, would recommend and use again. Details on the build - https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/302280/?offset=50#14467732

@scotts - SOMA is a great shout, I was really tempted by a Wolverine which are also available in 66

  • @scotts aero bars on a gravel bike shit you’re brave! Haha.
Oh thanks for the SOMA tip. Didn’t know they did a 66cm.
I’m soooo tempted by the titanium build from Waltly that @pjhobs has. Such a great looking bike.
    Thanks for the pointers guys

  • Big Dave Yates Yates Yates tourer ending today, in Cheshire:

I think this Dave Quinn in Dagenham belongs to someone on here. I remember being tempted by it a few years back:
    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/154352761792

  • Any thoughts on the price of that big Yates, seems expensive but I'm no expert on old steel values?

  • 70cm frame!!! Cannot be many of them about. If it’s your size £400 is ok unless you intend to drop more money on groupset, wheels, tyres etc etc.

I bought a 531ST touring frameset on here for ~£100 and a complete bike for ~£250ish both ~60cm frames.

Those big frames don’t sell all that quickly so if it’s not your size you’re stuck with it. That would be my biggest consideration.

  • I'd say if the Yates were a more regular say, 58cm, frame something like £200-250 would be fair price. But for such a big frame both the supply and the demand are erm, ...tiny. I'm always trawling ebay (pointlessly looking at steel bikes I'm not going to buy) and there's probably at most a handful of frame that size crop up per year.
It's probably optimistically priced but with a polish, some white bar tape, new pedals and some gumwalls it'll be a great looking useful bike. It may well drop further but I suppose it then becomes a game of nerves with the other people watching it.

One thing to note is it looks like it has braze-ons on the NDS seat stay and fork for some type of Dynamo system.

  • Those big frames don’t sell all that quickly so if it’s not your size you’re stuck with it. That would be my biggest consideration.

I used to have a big bike like that, 75cm, can't remember what I sold it for but it went quickly. When the person came to collect it, he was far too short and I said that I didn't think he was tall enough. He went for a ride and decided to go for it. It was a hands up, your decision moment for sure

  • The supply and demand of anything 64+ is never in my favour, I end up paying over the odds for rare sized frames and can never find a buyer when I want to sell so end up keeping them and filling my house with behemoths. You're right about the game of nerves too, obviously there only needs to be one other person my height also interested and then the bidding war begins.

  • 75? Where did you even find something that size? Local scaffolder go out of business?
