Moving out of London

Frequent busses in to Chippenham from corsham if that helps. Other option is Bath - bit further down the line but still <90 mins by train in to London. It’s pricey in parts but still lots cheaper than London, easy to access the stations via public transport/bike, plenty to do and obviously an aggressively beautiful place to live. We’re very happy here atm - only reason we’re looking to move is to have some land.

I'm from one of said villages outside Chippenham. Very nice but can be very isolated too (for me the nearest bus stop a mile walk along a road with no pavement and the sort of roads that should be nice to ride along if people weren't bombing round corners at 65mph.)
Chippenham isn't so bad but depends on what you're looking for. Bradford on Avon is nice for food/drin etc but probably a trickier commute. @C4r1s

Will there be enough #influencers up there for him? I always get the impression they mostly live in London and the South East.

Don't get me wrong, this is a reason NOT to live in London and the South East.

Not a huge amount to add to the Chippenham chat, used to live not far away, and actually had an office above the Iceland on the high street for a few years.

Not sure I would want to live in Chippenham itself, seems a little soulless to me, but some of the surrounding places are lovely.

The romantic country lanes image is one you're swiftly disabused of if you travel them regularly. Many moons back when I was doing my driving lessons I remember my instructor telling me that you have to show the instructor that you understand that the lanes are national speed limit so you need to put your foot down.

Thanks @kimchi, @Quincy, @Sam_w for the info. Sounds like it might be worth a look to see what it’s like. Doesn’t sound terrible, and maybe explore some of the outer villages.

Have lived in countryside where it’s lovely riding with silly drivers so will remind me of home! Is tempting to have the Cotswolds nearby for some off-road riding without to much travel

We leave London next Thursday. Been here 22 years. Won’t be missing it cos I’m coming back at least once a week. The terrifying thing... our chain of sale went proper wonky so we’ve no idea where we’ll be living and how long we’ll be dossing at my parents (in the vicinity of our move) or renting. Cat, storage, my studio packed down... massive leap into the abyss!

I’m based in b on a , easy to get everywhere including Bath, Bristol, A303 and you can get the train to westbury then in to London on a fast train. Canal, river, what’s not to like 👍

You have to watch out for errant wing mirrors around town . Personally I’d like to see the bridge turfed over!

👏 best of luck. We have been with staying with my wife's parents for a month and a bit now. Started as a firm 1-month-then-out thing, then decided to leave it open-ended, then a house came up and we put an offer in so it's now an open-ended-ish thing. Life in the abyss is alright!

Good luck ! You were living in leyton right ? My neck of the woods. Quite a lot of people moving out at the moment!

How is Leyton? We are Seven Sisters but wondering about Leyton or Leytonstone for a bit more space. But Tottenham has got a lot more going on now: the market, a few ok pubs, coffee places, a music venue, plus all the older Tottenham stuff like loads of food shops and the parks. Is Leyton just a place to live or can you hang out there too?

To be more specific my postcode is e11 but confusingly my nearest tube station is leyton. My postal address is Leytonstone. Leyton is pretty cool and has some decent stuff to do if you are around Francis Road, but not so much to do if you are north of there until you get to Walthamstow. Lots of Hackney migrants in francis Road.

Leytonstone has some decent stuff to do, lots of new pubs have opened up, you've got singburi , mora and some other decent places to eat. I really like it here. Feel free to send me a pm if you decide to start house hunting!

I was driving through Suffolk on my way home from Aldeburgh last year thinking I've been here before, this is very familiar... turns out I was driving back along some of the DD route

This probably seems like a very odd thing to say but I kind of mourn london when artists leave. (Previously it's been friends who happen to be artists so it's not clear what I'm mourning, but apparently it feels like a loss even if I don't know you at all!)
