  • Thanks for the offer but @Señor_Bear can take it.

  • @Señor_Bear I have sudden memories of JayGee's fireplace. Lovely frame, looking forward to seeing the build progress. Hope you and family all good.

  • I searched forever to try and find a similar colour seat post. Any leads?

I remember that Deda did some stuff in gun metal but I can't find one.

  • At a real push sim works froggy seat post? Fresh tripe are getting more in apparently

  • There is a Flite version (not the titanium) that matches it rather nicely. Had to replace mine because it was too short (20cm) but maybe a longer version exists?
Anyway, I think a black seatpost also matches the gun metal stem rather well

  • Everytime i see a corsa extra i want one again. Yet i always sell them when i have them :) go figure. That telekom is going to be sweeeet!

My own project is going slowly but i have now bought all the parts i need. Or at least i think so.
Was going to go with black extralite stem and deda carbon post but after trying out the caroline stem i bought i have decided to first build it up with silver stem and post which means i had to buy a saddle with silver rails as well. The berks i have in both white and black are carbon railed so no go with a silver post. Bought a slr with ti rails that i can hopefully brush to a reasonable match against the post which will be a dura ace 7410 (without logos hopefully). To bad the slrs are cluttered with logos and what not. Maybe rewrap if i find someone local that does not cost a fortune.

Been a while since i did silver post n stem but felt it was right after trying the stem on. At least for now. Hopefully i can pry that stem opening just enough to fit the zipp contour bars that have a slight flat bartop. The stem will only ad 250 grams or so versus the extralite ha .)

  • Nice Merckx. I've got the 3T gunmetal stem on one of my Merckx's, and it does colour match the Campag ti seatposts pretty well.

Didn't realise the ti Campag ones were so scarce/silly expensive now, there are some of the longer alu Chorus posts before they all went carbon, but they defo look more silvery than the ti ones.

  • Blimey, £1000 asked for a seatpost! I shall be sure never to leave my Chorus Ti post unattended

  • If Campagnolo re-introduced their classic alu/silver aero post but made it 6 inches longer, they'd sell shed loads of them. I've had to go down the ti seat post and alu Chorus route on at least 3 frames where those stubby Campag aero ones just didn't have the length needed.

  • Great to see a 'Gijs' van Tuyl.
    Lovely built.

  • I've got a titanium Syncros post in my spares bin, they're fairly affordable (very affordable in comparison to the Campagnolo one), but of course you need to be happy with what are essentially mountain bike parts on your road bike (which I am).

  • That spacer tower ruins it but apart from that, fantastic bike.

  • Yeah, put a quill on it and it’ll look lovely

  • Question for all you MGOOFers what group would work well on this frame. All the modern stuff is black.
    Silver 6700 group work?
    Something from campagnolo?

The frame got my attention on eBay as the size / colour / rear spacing all works for me. Not committed to buy just yet.

  • Campagnolo still do modern groupsets in silver, 11 speed centaur or potenza, or for the slightly older stuff with 5 bolt cranks, Athena

  • Athena is the last actually nice-looking silver groupset, but I imagine it'd be pretty hard to piece together now. Conceivably you could also try to find a less heinous crankset for silver Potenza or Centaur, although the black pieces interspersed throughout the other components are a bit disappointing.

Personally I think all black with deep carbon would be fine on this frame.

  • Gonna build a corsa extra Max soon. Probably gonna order some silver wheels, but will use carbon one for now.

Initially I wanna slap DA9000 crank to this beauty, pity its hard to get right now. Thinking of using Sram Red 22 BB30 crank as I can get good deal on it, anyone have previous experience using one? Using ITA30 bb IIRC. And will be mix with 105 R7000 group.

    Cheers

  • I object, sell it to me! Would be amazing with 12sp Campag.

Earnestly, if you already have the R7000, why not go for the full groupset?
Not the worst looking chainset in their lineup.

  • Merckx Max is v cool and nice colour. I think it looks great with carbon wheels.

I have silver Campy standard power torque 175 cranks if anyone wants them. Probably centaur, can’t remember but will dig out if there’s interest.

  • No idea where you are from but you can get in touch with Stefan from Kontour (https://www.instagram.com/kontour.cc/ , https://kontour.cc/). He and his wife do breathtaking jobs in recovering saddles.

  • I’ve got to learn how to speak campagnolo, I may be interested in those cranks.

  • They’re Veloce power torque with cups and Athena 11 speed rings.

  • Sram Red 22 BB30 crank

Unfortunately will not work in a threaded shell, even with a 30mm BB, since the spindle is too short.

  • Thats a really nice deep red!
