I'm kind of enjoying this Forester chat. But I don't live in the Australian outback like @>>>>>>. Linking in my whinge about the ULEZ and my diesel estate car. Any other suggestions for a vehicle that fits the @hugo7 'utility dad vibe'?
Things I love about my current vehicle:
- Two adults in the back, camping equipment for four in the boot, four bikes on the towbar, nothing on the roof.
- Comfy seats, decent economy, need to drive to Italy in a day sometimes.
- Far too many knobs and whistles and luxury bits.
- Galvainised body.
Forrester is on the right lines, but maybe too utilitarian for the motorway driving it will realistically be used for.

Should have known you'd be lurking. Want to swap?

Not yet I’m afraid, too poor to replace it with anything I’d find more fun and I’m not going diesel. Reckon I’ve got another year or two with it, want to nudge it past 50k. Once we’ve moved my need for a motorway chugger will be fully negated (instead of pandemic part-negated) as there won’t actually be any motorways between us and our destinations.

What model is it and how many kilomiles do you get to the imperial litre? I guess a petrol copy of my car is a good option.
-
• #62860
N53 330i, 38mpg if I’m being careful, aided by that 50mph bit on the M3. 18mpg around town

18mpg around town
Holy shitting crap what do you get up to around town? I assume drifting.

Sitting in the traffic on the A20 between Catford and Sidcup. It was not an efficient use of time or petrol, but I was emptying the house out so running or riding between the two wasn't feasible. I hated it.

It's why I'm happy that my car turns itself off when at traffic lights.

Couldn't hear it too clearly, yours is a diesel isn't it? Check the air filter intake near the right headlamp where it slots in, the foam strip wears out causing a plastic to plastic resonation.
To fix it lift it up and apply felt tape strips to the contact areas :)

Brands of cambelt and pump used.
Is it the 1.6hdi still? Can't remember.
-
• #62866
1.6 petrol, no idea about brands though. presumably the cheapest they can get.

And there will be the issue. There are alot of cheap/poor quality waterpumps around.
Wander over to the frenchcarforums for garage advice, but the cambelt/water pump replacement doesn't take that long, there are a few youtube videos to show. Maybe the more expensive garage doesn't want the work.

Cheers - I’ll give it a look!
I think you need to listen to the vid with headphones to stand a chance of hearing it, lol.

Bishi Evo Wagon or gtfo

I love wagons, but an evo without a big wing is sad.

If it is not a twin turbo subaru, I am not interested.
Oh and someone even put a the subaru flat 4 in an lancia fulvia. Now that is a fucking aberation. Up there with putting a ferrari V8 in a fulvia.
