So there's a podcast and group on Facebook called Guitar Nerds and three of the podcast hosts are currently starting build projects to modify Squier Broncos.
A number of members of the group on Facebook have bought them too to join in on the fun and the idea is to go nuts on building weird and excellent modified Broncos without it costing the earth!
One of the hosts actually uses a Bronco as her main bass already and she's heavily modified it with a rough natural finish, Hipshot lollipop tuners and a Serek B90 pickup.
They're cheap as chips basses (£159 from GAK at the moment) and it's going to be a lot of fun watching everyone else's builds progressing too so might be something that would suit your short scale bass aspirations?

This is getting me at the moment, maybe I can find a cheap used Squier Mustang & mod it...
