I have three single seats (they sit next to eachother like a bench) from a transit, does anyone want them?

Looking for a van for conversion - preference is for a lwb, medium or high roof Transit, but willing to consider other makes. But that sort of size.
Spending up to 10k, but 7k would be better.
Apart from Auto-trader, where else should I be looking?

Gumtree, ebay. Look for something ex fleet. You know it will have been looked after enough.
I went for a ducato, fwd and nice dimensions inside. Have a look.

Are Bongos definitely a no-go? One has popped up locally, 2.5l diesel with 120k miles for £7k which doesn't appear to be too outrageous.

I had one for 2 years. 4wd lifting roof. Things to look out for;
- Low fuel economy 20's pg
-Engine over heat an issue - check has temp guages fitted
-actually quite cramped inside due to all the car trim and non reversing front seats.
-tendency to rust
I would not have another. I would go for a Transit connect size and self convert (simple or as complicated as you like).
- Low fuel economy 20's pg

I think Bongos are fine, had one since 2005. As long as you fit a coolant alarm (£50-60) then the overheating issues can be overcome. The mileage is like anything, the faster you go, the worse they are. Cruising at 60mph which is pleasant gets me 30 + mpg on diesel. Having the kick down boost on acceleration will get you out of any trouble on a motorway, it can fly at 90mph should you desire. The best bit is they fit through 6'6" skinny residential barriers. We had a rocknroll bed in our 1st, and in our 2nd (1st was written off by a reversing lorry!), we just put the seats down and a double mattress sized bit of foam. V comfortable. 1st had a pop top roof which was great for our 2 kids up to the age of about 8, then we just got a tin top after Bongo 1 was written off and attach an awning with 2 campbeds each side. So sleeps 4 comfortably with an awning. What's nice is the things like the fitted blinds, we fitted a leisure battery and split relay so it charges when driving and that lasts all weekend. Under the bonnet there is a space for a chunky leisure battery. Insurance is cheap enough £3-400 per year. Good all rounders for a 1st camper. A poor person's VeeDub.
We paid 5k for a 1996/7 in 2005, and then 5k again for a tin top in 2016. The good thing is that they tend to have low mileage, check the speedo isn't in KM rather than miles, ours was a Japanese import with 100,000km on the clock, so north of 60,000 miles, which for a diesel is great. -

Interesting, thanks both. This is a 1995 for £7k, which shows how silly prices are at the moment! We've got a California booked for 10 days in May so should probably have a go in that first and see how we find it.

Is that for a camper pop top or a standard van?
Although silly money either way.

Camper pop top. What would be sensible money? I've not really looked into this too much, but seen a few 8 seat vans listed locally for £5-6k.

ah! makes sense now!

I meant silly money for a 25 year old van in general. No idea if that's the going rate for Bongos or not.
-
• #592
Oh, yes I agree with you on that front but is what it is eh.

About half price of what I've seen camper VW's go for over here in Sweden. Seen mid nineties high milage vans in used but good condition sell for £15k

Maybe I should bring my ducati back and sell it if that it what a 1995 shutter gets.

Caravan and camping club say
England: Our earliest opening date will be the 12th of April. We are currently clarifying guidance but it is likely that as part of this opening phase we will not be able to open facility blocks. Campers will need to have their own self-contained toilet facilities, until the 17th of May at the earliest.

That's only for booking with a camp, though, no? If you can find somewhere you're legally allowed to park up in (this is obviously always true), and there are not more than 6 people (or two households if more), I thought you were fine.

Yeah I meant the layby / car park / etc version of van life. The exact rules from March 29th are a bit vague.

The amount of overpriced vans on outdoor groups right now is INSANE!
Great time to sell it seems.....
Is it a Unimog?
The original pre-Mercedes Unimog?
