  • It's cheaper to build up a frame from scratch which is madness.

  • Gravel Hill's finest gravel at lunch today

  • Threw gears and drops on this recently inlight of better weather and needing something to ride miles on.

im really pleased with it. Its super comfy, fits me like a glove and rips.

If like a diff coloured headset, a paint job and 2x10 at somepoint too!

  • who makes 27.5 x 2.1 tyres that all these gravel bikes are designed for?! I can see Teravail and just TWO Schwalbe and thats it?!

  • Vittoria & Maxxis do

  • I've got a 27.5x2.1 Mezcal here and I'm running a 650Bx50mm Pirelli Cinturato M up front now.

  • I've bought a pair of Maxxis tread lites for the upcoming build in that size. Tho these are all black, no tanwall option, so might not even count.

  • I've run bontrager XR1 650 2.2 for years on my bonbtrack and NS, great tyres! Probs going to try something new this year, because tan wall.

  • Does anyone have a GRX 2x10 front mech they want to part with?

Wiggle gave a lead time of "before December", I knew there were shortages but wasn't expecting it to be that bad.

  • It is that bad, at our workshop we’re getting aftermarket components such as sunrace and microshift due to not being able to get Shimano.

  • That’s a 28mm tyre (&mudguard) the manufacturer says max 30mm but that looks like loads of room. How big can I go? How can I tell? What tyre for summer gravel? How many frame bags?
    Whole new consumer experiences.

  • You can probably get 45mm mudguard and maybe 32mm tyres but I wouldn’t advise pushing it.

  • What do you think without a mudguard?
Basically Hunt wheels have mildly messed me around and have offered me a pair of free tyres which is more than generous.
I’ve already got a set of winter and a set of summer tyres so I was thinking of getting a pair for mild off-roading. They have 30,33,35 and 38mm in a variety of tread patterns.
Wiggle have massively messed my son around over a pair of wheels and are cunts btw.

  • Think about tyre volume, not just width. How close is the tyre to the ST?
I'd say take a 33 for the rear and a 35 for the front if you can fit it in the fork. That'll be more than plenty for summer gravel and will give you 2 widths to test/assess the limits on the rear size.

  • This is the seat tube, chain stabs measure 32mm at the bridge 42mm near the tyre. Do you think PX are playing safe saying 30mm or maybe don’t want to take sales from their gravel bikes

  • I won't put bigger than slick 32c. You may be able to fit a cyclocross tire. Less than a few mm each side of clearance and you'll touch the stays if the wheel flexes, picks dirt or gets out of true.

  • If the width of the mudguard is 35mm, then maximum 35mm, the wheel flex will increase the likelihood of tyres rubbing on the stay, and if your bike is still under warranty, likely to be voided if there’s erosion.

  • Cool, neat way of thinking about it I’ve been pondering making up a template etc not realising my mudguards are already a 35mm template.

  • Minimum 2mm gap between tyres and stay, recommend 4mm gap.

  • I’ve got 6mm between the mudguard and stays so 47mm overall.
So Schwalbe G-one speed 30mm almost no tread
Schwalbe G-one all round 35mm more tread
Or Schwalbe X-one all round 33mm knobbly

Surrey hills and farm/gamekeepers /fire roads across the N.Yorks moors in summer(Yorkshire summer similar concept to British gravel)

  • Iirc (think I read it on here somewhere) it's to do with legal standards for max clearances for bike tyres in frames and forks needing something like 4 or 5mm all around, so you can always fit slightly larger tyres than what a manufacturer claims.
Don't think it's anything to do with them trying to keep their gravel sales going

  • Has anyone converted an Arkose Alfine to 1x and rear derailleur? I'd like to either convert mine or change to DI2 alfine but trying to think of pro's and cons of each scenario if anyone has done a similar thing. Would anyone know if the DI2 hub and cable hub are the same size so i can reuse my wheel without changing the spokes.

  • I have a pair of 32mm Hutchinson black mamba that surely would do the job

  • Thought about this whilst on a ride the other day:

    Edit: Too niche?
