  • He tossed aside the broken bit of the bars in the final km. Definitely looks like they went where the lever was clamped as @snoops said.

  • Ooffft not good. Still looks more like a lever type issue than the bar design.

  • Looks a bit crushed

  • Put it this way, you'd be far more worried riding a Factor over cobbles than a Canyon on the evidence

  • now I can't wait to get home to watch this

  • As pointed on here on twitter, Hirschi has gone missing from racing and social media since the weird Sunweb leak about his NDA.

    https://twitter.com/larakazakos/status/1366686939013931008?s=20

  • It's idle speculation at the moment. We have no idea of what his plans for the season are, but I'd imagine they are likely to include the Tour and the Olympics, possibly the Worlds, so starting his season late might be part of the plan.

  • Aren’t NDA’s just usual business these days?
Are they less common in cycling??

  • They are standard in any employment contract dispute, I think. When I had mine I had to sign one.

  • They seem to have become so common are lawyers at work suggest them for just about everything, I don’t understand why people think it’s such a big deal. I’d be more surprised if there wasn’t an NDA in place.

  • Were those rules not coming in on April 1st? Should be still ok to use it for now I thought

  • Didn’t break at the adjustment bit at the bars, does look over clamped.

Having said that, they have been racing over cobbles so surprised more carbon bars don’t break.

Canyon to release classics edition alloy aero bars?

  • ^^ That may be the case but it's the first time one's been mentioned in cycling and there have mid-season transfers and mid-contract transfers before, some of them controversial, but with both sides giving their version afterwards. Maybe Hirschi is just feeling down about it all, hopefully not, or maybe it is as odd as it looks and more will be revealed or neither.
No discussion of how Quickstep managed to have no one in the top 25 today?

  • Looks like Cavendish actually went well today?

  • That’s probably the least clear go fund me I’ve read. Are they asking fans to fund the prize money?

Jose Been’s take on this was interesting. https://twitter.com/TourDeJose/status/1366635422823165955?s=20

  • It's an interesting question. The organisers said that they paid the minimum for the level of the race to both men and women. They also said that despite smaller revenues (no VIP passes etc), they paid for live TV coverage.

The argument appears to be more coverage = more sponsor visibility = more money for women's teams. The assertion is that giving a top tier rider 16k is far less valuable to women's cycling as a whole than the TV cameras are.

  • I’ll donate. It might not be the best way to achieve equality but it’s another little step.
It also shows it’s an important and a supported issue. I’m making an effort to ensure I play all the women’s races on GCN, if nothing else just to add to the count.

My daughter who is 5, has some tough questions when we are watching cycling anything that can lessen that I’m all in favour of.

  • Breaking news on The Cycling Pod: Lionel Birnie is out with a broken collarbone. Touch of wheels took him down in Hertfordshire.

  • Brought down by a commentators' cliche. That's good.

  • While I agree that the prize money should be higher. They need to look at how much woman get paid and address that first.

  • If the race organisers are arguing they cant increase female winners prize money due to funds already being spent on coverge, they should be reducing the male winners prize money to make up the shortfall to make both prize funds equal.

I really dont understand how this is even an argument in this day in age. its ridiculous. If Race organisers continue to refuse to make changes then the male winners of the races should start refusing prize money until change happens in my opinion. It's not like a rider who wins a big race is doing it for the prize money.

  • they should be reducing the male winners prize money to make up the shortfall to make both prize funds equal

Race organiser said prize money was the UCI minimum in both categories.
