  • Just waiting on the news article declaring that Ireland is secretly full of Nazis.

Lol (assuming you mean because of the Celtic rune).

With so many free online resources compiling nazi symbolism, I think a stage designer for a major political event has no excuse for ‘accidentally’ picking a nazi-related design. It’s not like there’s no other options for spacing these geezers out.

  • What would have happened if the Dems somehow fired the person who made that call and overrode the "dumb conventions"? Would the recovery bill have made it through the senate?

Political precedent. IIRC it has happened before, but only when the parlamentarían was being useless/obstructionist. There are certain lines that change the game once they’re crossed, this is a small example of one.

  • Disclaimer: did not factcheck this

My understanding was that the last person to be sacked for that was demonstrably inconsistent and literally not doing their job properly, whereas this decision seems to be entirely black and white and 100% predictable.

One one hand the Dems should not have tried to sneak the minimum wage pledge through in the relief bill, on the other hand they promised that they would get it done and it was their best bet to try and hold their breath so I suppose they just wanted to be seen to be trying.

Will be interesting to see how they try to pass it next.

  • It kind of reminds me about the outcry when Johnson shut Parliament down to avoid scrutiny on a Brexit bill. I'm quite suprised at the number of liberals I know who seem to think similar chicanery is ok when its something they support.

  • I’m not saying fire the parliamentarian. I’m saying their advice is literally that - advisory. Harris, as VP, can overrule, and then the senate would need a supermajority to overturn that overruling. This isn’t illegal and it doesn’t break any of the rules. It may not be in the “spirit of the rules” but the the filibuster was never designed to be a block to all legislation without a supermajority so fuck the spirit of the rules.

The recovery bill would easily clear congress (it already did) and then it would be down to Manchin and Sinema to decide how politically expedient it would be for them to throw the entire recovery bill out of the window in order to oppose this measure. It would also be down to the Biden admin to come down on Manchin and Sinema to say to them “you oppose this and we will fuck you”.

The senate rules are a fucking Rube Goldberg machine designed to make it impossible to legislate anything. There is a way around them. Dems should take it. Thinking that these conventions are more important than people being paid a wage that doesn’t put them below the poverty line for a full week’s work is madness.

  • pretty sure you don't need a shonky white supremacist symbol to let you know the GOP is a white supremacist party.

  • Lol, exactly this. You don’t need to interrogate the set design for right wing messages - just listen to the speeches.

  • No government should be bound by previous governments, or even by itself.

  • As i understand it, any person travelling to china has to provide a swab. Diplomats are exempt, but this was mistakenly omitted from a document, and then draaaaamaaaaaa

  • So everyone gets an anal swab? Seems fair then. But I do wonder if those q-tips go as high up into your brain as well

I mean I was joking, but then I saw these vents outside a shop while out for a walk today:

I hope the US military realises that they need to re-train people about the actual roles and allegiances of the armed forces, and that they have at most 3 effective years to do it.

There won’t be a clearer alarm than all 10 living former SecDefs getting personally involved to help prevent active duty troops from supporting a coup less than two months ago.

Having said that, the entire system of checks and balances needs to be shored up and reinforced, because there’s a Sturm a’comin’.

  • Had to google to see if it's real. It is. Fuck me.

  • What a complete chump

  • why say

    "shot"

in quotes? that's what it is... does he think he literally just invented that term to describe an injection?

this is what happens when you don't tell your kids love them often enough, folks.

    i hope he dies soon.

  • It's the "(often referred to as the China Virus)" that really gets me. So silly.

  • Just noticed that the second sentence is a verbatim repeat of the first four words. Like a looping distress signal.
