• Answered my own question. Turns out 16gb is a ‘custom build’ and only available from Apple. Do I need 16gb? By all accounts these things are savage but I’m keen to future proof as much as possible. I’m not goi g to be rendering 4K video, but it seems logical that future apps will use more ram? The £200 outlay now seems reasonable if it gets a few extra years out of it.

  • Was kind of thinking about future proofing in those terms as well until my 11 year old MBP was revived for about 150 bux via a new SSD.
    I will stay tuned regardless, FYI I have two slots with 4gb in each.

  • It’s a no-brainer imo. £200 over the lifetime of the machine is a minor, and there is zero upgrade path post-purchase.

  • Do I need 16gb?

    Yes esp if its £200.

    And esp yes if you use any Adobe software.
