Found people on pinkbike saying my medium cage XT will work on 1x with a 46t. Fingers crossed ...
EDIT Ahh probably bollocks, that's probably for XT 10sp not 9.

Dibble, do you have any suspicions about where the pic was taken, such as where he lives or just which general area of London?

Re my Covid test issue at work. Boss didn't have a leg to stand on though didn't let on. He said he couldn't pay me for the week he sent me home. I said "pay me or don't pay me, I don't care but I stand by my decision not to lie to get a test". It's pay day today and it seems I won the argument.

Happy to hear that honesty won out.

This is the third time we have had a court date 1, was adjourned because his map was bollocks(we did ask for it to be thrown out)
2, he contacted the court at the last minute and said he was self isolating.
Each time he has altered his statement and map, this time he has added in a few photos showing the damage to his vehicle mixed in with ones of my car taken immediately after the crash he intends for the judge to think they are contemporaneous.
I’m sure they are taken elsewhere the railings and in another photo the road surface don’t match.
I’d love to know where because he was evasive about stuff in hearing no1 -

That photo will have metadata.

The problem is the Court system is still paper so the photos have been printed off as part of his evidence then scanned and sent to me.

I set up a fire tablet for my OH with that firebox thingy to unAmazon it.
There is no email on it - just games, media, browsing.
Is there some sort of messaging app, or easy / low effort way of fwd a WhatsApp message to it?
This is for the single use case of wanting to do zoom calls with mates who've sent invites via WhatsApp or Signal.
Any bright ideas? Every solution I can think of isn't tablet compatible or involves setting up emails.

It's annoying that there's no tablet app for whatsapp like the desktop one, but you can still use whatsapp via a browser at https://web.whatsapp.com/

Don't the invites show the meeting ID and passcode? I've been sent invites via whatsapp on the phone and then just joined zoom manually on the tablet.

Paste address into a real time synced notepad like this:
https://shrib.com/
(No login required. There's a button on the right that makes addresses clickable) -

Cheers all. That's really helpful.

Stems usually have bolts with smaller than standard heads. I’m about to have the same problem; I’d like to replace the horrible rusty bolts in the stem on one of my bikes for new stainless ones, but I don’t know where to get them from.

Why do so many bike builders fall back on Thomson seatposts/stems?
They seem to love them for their galleries (been looking at framebuilders on https://theframebuilders.com/list/)
They're ugly, overpriced and CNCed which makes them weaker than a proper forged stem.
Is it pandering to potential customers who see Thomson as quality? -

Yes.

Metallurgy question: I want to chop up a drinks can to make a cookie cutter, but the metal is really springy and difficult to shape.
Is there some kind of heat treatment I can do to make it more pliable? I have a gas hob at my disposal

I want to chop up a drinks can
There's your trouble, an aluminium soda can is not the right starting point. You'll have much better results with a steel bean can. The alloy used for the body of soda cans is not heat treatable. You can anneal it at 344°C to bring it back to original condition, as it will be much stronger following the extensive cold working involved in can production, but at original condition it will be too weak to cut cookie dough 🙂

Annealing (heating) will help soften hardened alu, how easy this will be on a drinks can, I can't really say!

make a cookie cutter
I suppose that you already have something in mind, but I’ve often thought of the potential of Escher’s art for biscuit cutting technology

If you want something that will last forever (but might cost a bit) there is a man in Leyton who makes custom punches for leather that look like highly robust cookie cutters.
I can’t remember his name at the moment but if you’re interested I’ll put a bit of though in. Somewhere near Argyle Way? -

Escher’s art for biscuit cutting
love it
Despite this^ being way more intriguing...
Does anyone know what rear mech might reach across an 11-46 10sp cassette? I'm happy to add an extender for the hanger to make it work. Also: as it's 1x, do I need to have a long cage? I ask as I have a Medium cage XT 9sp doing nothing.
